What would you do? Edge Evo vs PHP Gryphon

I just traded my 2003 Lightning for a 2005 Lariat Supercrew 5.4 (growing family) and I'm looking to get a little more performance (and mileage as a by-product when I feel like going easy on the pedal).

I have the opportunity to buy a used Edge Evo with an unpainted pod for $150 but I was originally planning on purchasing a Gryphon from PHP. The Gryphon would likely cost me north of $500 with duty at the border, taxes, and a custom tune.

I've read conflicting results with the Edge, some are happy with the results and some are not. Should I run far far away or should I take this as it's a good deal? Can I expect any problems with this unit having been previously used on a different truck or should it just be plug & play (I do plan on trying it before I pay the guy anways).

I'm not expecting neck-snapping power like I had with the Lightning and I'm not expecting miracles in the MPG department, just an improvement and the ability to change the tire size settings etc.

If it truly shifts like garbage though (like some have said) then I don't know if that's something I want to live with.

The "new to me" Supercrew has 72K, 3" exhaust from the Y back with a Flowmaster muffler, and a K&N CAI. No other mods are planned.

Thanks.
,Marc

If you plan on keeping the K&N WASHOOBI, you absolutely need to either 1) get a Gryphon with custom tunes or 2) buy the used Edge and get it converted to a Gryphon with custom tunes.

^what he said. It's going to run you cheaper than buying the Gryphon.

Marc, you didn't say what year truck this Edge is coming out of. If it's an 04-08 and the truck has been returned to stock, there should be no problems. But, (as you probably know) an Edge from a pre-04 truck will not work.

To get it loaded with custom tunes, you will HAVE to ship it to PHP to be converted to a Gryphon (I think the cost is in the $25.00 range + shipping) and then custom tunes are $60.00 each. You still come out ahead this way over a new Gryphon.
