Gryphon Towing 87 vs 89

Going to be pulling a double axle trailer with several four wheelers on it this weekend, not a whole lot of weight but its about a 4 hour drive one way to where I will be going. Question is, manual says the canned towing tune is for 87 but may perform better using 89. I have only towed using 89 thus far, but since the round trip is about 8 hours, I would not mind saving some money running 87. Has anyone towed using both 87 and 89, if so was there a difference between the two? I would hate to fill up with 87 and realize the truck is not running up to par (or should I say how it normally runs with 89). Thanks in advance.

The tune is written for 87 and I doubt you will see or feel a difference. I would make sure it is a top tier brand, though.

Did some reading on top tear brands, essentially same base fuel to start with, then they add their own flavor of additives. Any suggestions, we have a fairly diverse selection of brands here. Anything good/bad about Sunoco - I can use my fuel perks there and save a little more money. In reading about their product, seems to be pretty good - but I am no chemist.

The Sunoco "87" is E-10 and is very likely really 89 anyway.

Truck did just fine running the 87 octane, the only time I knew there was a trailer behind me was on steep grades. Shifting was minimal, tranny temp stayed right where it needed to be. Thanks again to all for the info. According to the truck's "info center" I averaged 12.4 mpgs, not too bad.
