Gryphon questions

So for 2 days I have been reading threads here and at PHP site about tuners and such, now have just a few basic questions I have not seen answers to.
Truck is 2007 F150, 5.4, XLT with tow package, totally stock except for shocks and Gott modification.
1. With the Gryphon, can one change tunes from one to another using the screen such as from performance to towing just before taking off?
2. When I order it, it comes with three canned tunes, tranny, 87 tow and 93 performance if I have that right. I never use 93 octane, so until custom tunes show up, I would either have to use 93 octane or run 87 with the tow tune?
3. What does the tranny tune give a person, allow them to do?

The first question is one of most importance, ease of changing. Some days I will just decide to hook either the boat up or the travel trailer and go, so want to be able to easily (just push a button?) just go without resetting things. Used to have a superchip handheld that was a pain as you had to take time to change it.
Thank you in advance.

  1. All you have to do is turn the key to on and not start. Then go to the programming section by hitting menu. Select your level. Let it run through it's thing Then start. At least that's how I remember doing it. Takes maybe a minute tops.
  2. Run the 87 tow or the tranny tune. Do not run a tune for a octane that is higher than the octane you have in your truck. Yo can run higher octane than the tune but not the other way around.
  3. No clue. Never used it. Used the 87 Tow until I received my 87 Performance custom tune.

The level one tranny tune just adjust the shift points and pressure.

1. Unfortunately you can't "tune on the fly" with these programmers. Like rllackey28 mentioned, you have to stop, turn off the truck, reprogram, then go.

2. You can use any grade of fuel on the 87 tow and tranny (also an 87 tune), but you will have to use high octane if you plan on running the canned performance tune. Most people run the 87 tow all the time if you dont want to worry about fuel being the proper grade and such.

3. The tranny tune only modifies the transmission functions. There are no engine modifications. The only use I saw for it was if you were having trouble with engine tuning and needed a tune tweaked. It gives you a step between full engine AND tranny tuning and stock. If you program to that you can diagnose if the tune had trouble in one of the two main areas and if it was the reason without going back to stock. Other than it is pretty much a useless feature.
