Computer reflashed?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I am pretty sure that I need to get my computer reflashed. My truck is totally stock. Do I have to go to the dealer for this? What do they normally charge to do this? Thanks much

You would do this at a dealership to correct drivability issues. But, what makes you think you need the PCM to be reflashed? They generally do it automatically, to correct "bugs" in the code or other problems that crop up within the vehicle's warranty period.

I have no idea what it costs, sadly.

When they installed my PCM it cost 128 dollars for labor I think, I want to say that they charge for 1 hour of labor to reflash. Probably easier to call and ask.

What's your truck doing and why do you want it reflashed?

Reflash is usually 1 hour labor.....

All fixed now........

I thought it needed to be reflashed because since I changed out the battery it has run like absolute garbage. It would run rough and would die while in stop-and-go traffic or pulling into a parking spot. The idle was very low as well. I got the complete fuel system cleaned and now that beast runs like new. I was worried that it was something real serious. Next is the plug change. The dealer close to me will do for $500 and then I will be good to go for a while.

Ah - makes sense now. What had happened was the "adaptive learning" feature in the computer over time learned to compensate for your problems in the fuel system (which develop slowly over time).

Changing the battery forced the PCM to forget all the ways it had learned to compensate, and it suddenly was faced with an "abrupt" non-optimum system when battery power was restored.
