NEED HELP on Gryphon CS!

I got the Gryphon CS the other day. It says Edge Evolution CS all over the place. Is the Gryphon CS the Edge Evolution CS just with custom tunes? Also, I hooked the programmer up to my computer and I was just looking through it and I went into the "vehicle info" part and it gives a vin # that is not mine. Keep in mind this was never hooked up to my truck, it was taken out of the box and hooked right up to my laptop. Why is there a random vin #? Also, I ordered the custom tunes, levels 1,2,3 when I purchased the Gryphon CS, do I have to hook the programmer up to the truck to get the hex code? Where is the hex code located? Thanks for all your help!!!

Brett

I know with the Gryphon CS for the 09-up is an Edge CS. Right down to the labels. The older monochromatic Gryphons did not say Gryphon on them, but they didn't have Edge on them either. I do not know about the random vin#. You will need to connect it to your truck to get your hex code. If you just recieved your Gryphon from PHP, the tuner is sent long before Bill will get to your tunes. You should get an email from Bill or Corey when they are ready, then you will download them via your computer to your CS. I don't know how long the current wait is for custom tunes. I have been waiting a couple of months for mine. When I put a Gyphon on my 06, I had to wait about 3 months, I think, before the custom tunes were ready. Worth the wait IMO. Good luck and enjoy.

88 - I'm going to guess a bit at your PM to the OP and try to sort a bit of this out for the rest of the forum members here. If I get anything wrong, feel free to correct me.

First: if the OP ordered a CS from PHP, he got an Edge CS - nothing on it will say Gryphon and it will have Edge's "canned" tunes, which he can use right away. This is all per licensing agreements with Edge.

Second: The CS cannot know his vehicle's VIN until it is plugged into his truck. I did not notice this "discrepancy" with mine, when I first received it, but maybe it has a "placeholder" value until the real one is recorded.

Third: The so-called "hex" code is known as a "CalibrationECM" in the CS/CTS units. You get it through [Help]->[Vehicle Info] in the CS/CTS menus once the unit is installed on the truck. PHP needs the CalibrationECM value to properly construct your custom tunes.

Fourth: Once your custom tunes are complete, PHP will notify you. At that time, you will connect your CS/CTS to your PC with Fusion running, and it will download those tunes to your programmer.

So, hope this clears up any confusion anyone might have about these units.

Giving the info on the hex code being the calibration ECM really helps when your new to this because naturally someone like me would be looking for HEX CODE! not CALIBRATION ECM! Thank you jackandjanet! Also, how long does it usually take to get your custom tunes?

All depends on their current workload.

I THINK, it's probably more like 1 - 1.5 months right now. Thing is, there seem to be "glitches" that drive the wait longer. Things like email notifications of tunes ready that are never received, customers not knowing they had to get their "hex" (calibration) code to PHP before they even get put into the queue and so on.

You will have the PHP splash screen once you get their tunes. I had my truck reflashed by the dealer before ordering my custom tunes because I wanted all of the various fixes Ford has made on the past 18 months. I had to get a "special firmware download" for my CTS to allow any programming after doing this. I have only driven once with the custom tunes, so the jury is still out on those.
