Looking for more power

I have a 97 F150 4.6 4x4 5 speed. Currently have an Edge Evo programmer with canned tunes because i cant upgrade, I also have an S&B cold air intake on my truck. I am looking for more power, and suggestions would be great i am open to anything, i don't care about fuel mileage. Also i am willing to sell this edge for a newer if it will help.

I don't think any other kind of tuning device will get you any kind of significant increase. I think you would need to look at other kinds of mods, such as regearing. If you don't care about gas mileage, a set of 4.56 gears would make a very noticeable difference. That's going to be quite expensive on a 4x4 though.

PI heads, PI cams, and PI intake manifold would be a fantastic investment for you and with a custom tune you would pick up about 50-70rwhp, (keep in mind right now your probably only around 190rwhp).

assuming your capable of during the work yourself it'd only cost you about $500-$700. (if you buy used parts, not including tuning) if you have someone do it for you add about $1000 for labor on to that, and $500 for a tuner and custom tune.

To the OP, since you have a 97, you don't have to worry about the "lean" problem with your CAI. A newer programmer MIGHT give you a slight increase in HP and torque, but not enough to justify the expense in my opinion.

Since you have a manual transmission, you don't have to worry about the 4.56 gears screwing up Ford's "torque control", and you'd definitely move the "operating" RPMs up into the high power area. So, I'm with glc here. If your current gears are 3.55, I think you're "under geared" with 33" tires, and that would be my first change.

The other improvements (heads, cams, etc.,) are certainly good for power too, but they're also expensive. How much life is left in your truck?

The 4.6 needs RPM's to get up and go - its low end torque is quite modest because it's basically a car engine.

Plenty of life left in my truck currently has 130,150 miles new plugs, wires. Has absolutely no problems, the truck was basically not even driven 2007-Dec. 2009. Until my purchase, when i had it all tuned up.
