shift point, torque con preferences

i could use a few pointers please. i have a 04, 4x4, supercrew-5.4 auto. e-bay intake, banks cat back. i just lifted it 6" with 35's and am filling out my tuner 'custom tune' form i figured 'performance tunes for 87,89,92 octane (local) i rarely tow, but do every so often. sound logical? i asked for 'firm' on shift firmness, but not sure about shift points and torque converter lock points..suggestions please. thanks

Tell him to use his 'default' settings depending upon the tune ( tow, perf, etc). and then ask him exactly what those settings will be, and post them here - we are curious. Typically, the tuner supplies these settings, since the average end-user does not have a clue what values to use. What are the towing limits/restrictions for each of those tunes?

Additionally - and FAR more importantly - ask him how he is going to write an accurate MAF TF for yer 'e-Bay' intake. Post up that response as well - again we are curious.

And - ask him about datalogging and review. Does he provide detailed info on the procedure and what to capture? With an unknown intake and an email tune, you will probably want to do this....

You have an '04 with possible pre-existing lean conditions to start with.

BTW - got a link to that thar intake? Again curious

Keep in mind as well that all the maintenance items should be up to snuff - front O2's, fuel filter, air filter, fluids, plugs, no codes, etc, etc.

Oh yeah - did he ask you to read the hex calibration code?
I assume he did since he sent you the handheld, and ...we have been here before: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ns-please.html

For reference - here is what VMP asks: http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...d=165&parent=2

IMHO - if you are in doubt about ANY of the parameters , ASK the tuner to Explain them to you and offer recommendations based upon HIS experence. Repeat this as often as necessary until YOU are comfortable with the answers - it's YOUR expensive Truck and PCM after all.

Good luck.

Excellent advice, MGD. About the only thing a "good" tuner should ask that relates to shift points and torque converter lock settings is: "Do you want me to tune for economy or power?" Once you give him an answer, he should know how to bias them.
