Shift pressure change SCT 98 Expedition
Shift pressure change SCT 98 Expedition
Im going to go ahead and ask. I bought a SCT X3[nib] from a well known tuner with 3 custom tunes. I like a firm up shift so in order to get it, I bumped the shift pressure to +25%[on the tuners advice]. I do not feel a difference and I have done it on all 3 tunes.
This is on my 98 Expedition with the 4.6. I am running 35,s. On my old 99 I had a S/C 1715 and had the shift points maxed out. Very noticeable and I loved it. I was running 33,s on it but it had the 5.4.
Would the 5.4 and smaller tires make that much of a difference in the feel? Its just not what I expected

I guess 25% is the max you can increase this as a "user"? (I don't have an SCT, so I don't know the answer. But, my understanding is that the SCT changes "pressure", rather than "band lockup delay" like the Edge/Gryphon does, is that correct?)
A change in your custom tune could certainly raise your "base" shift pressure more, but there is a reliability drawback to making it too high.
For everyone, fiveohpoepoe is being very "diplomatic" in his concerns here. He and I have had several more "frank" PMs about this. His tuner is Justin at VMP, so he's not working with a jerk. If any of you have anything constructive to tell him, please do. He's ready to "jump ship", and I don't have any brilliant ideas to offer.

I bought a VB off the punisher on Lrodder and have never been happier. I was never too impressed with the whole hand held custom tune via email and just raising the line pressure. I can guarantee you that you will be happy as all get out with Paul’s AKA the punishers VB.
Wellsir - you can display and log these PID's ...
EPC 11C0 Transmission Line Pressure Control PSI
EPC V 11B2 Transmission Line Pressure Control VOLTS
... with yer X3 (display requires a laptop in the vehicle - on-device logging on the handheld itself for later dump & review can be done without one).
With and without you bumping up the line pressure, to see if it is acually having any effect.
Download Livelink (free from SCT's website). Direct linky to LiveLink v6.2 (supports Win7): http://www.sctflash.com/software/LiveLink62.exe
For a quickie tutorial on datalogging, see TJ's excellent instructions starting @ post #8 in this here *sticky* thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ogrammers.html
If the value actually changes as expected, but yer butt-dyno cannot discern it, then perhaps you have a tranny problem of some sort (slippage, etc).
FYI - Additionally, as part of yer purchase, VMP will review a full datalog of yer tuning (for up to 6 months IIRC).

Support:
"All email tune files include ONE update at no charge and ONE datalog review (if necessary) at no charge.
We will also review a dynograph and make adjustments once at no charge. "
Justin should be able to supply you with the procedure and specific PID's / & DMR's to log and capture in a CSV/EXCEL SS, to facilitate an effective review in support of any tuning changes (not just tranny) that may be required. This is the beauty of SCT email tuning.
Before I'd install any sort of valvebody or transgo device, I'd ensure the trans was healthy first - in stock form, with no tuning, with all maintenance items addressed (fresh fluid, filter, bands , solenoids healty, etc) - just IMHO.
Even with heavier running gear, you should be detecting something, however minor...
PID list (partial): http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92
The complete list will be displayed for yer specific stratagey within the LiveLink application ( there are LOTS, lol)
More resources here: X3 and Livelink FAQ's tutorials, etc: http://www.sctflash.com/support/inde...gebase&_a=view
Example - on-device datalogging setup: http://www.sctflash.com/support/inde...cleid=38&nav=0
Don't despair and don't 'jump ship"! Justin will work with you - but NO tuner can be held responsible if you have existing mechanical issues - custom tuning is not a bandaid.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I am in no way trying to bring any bad publicity and I did not intend on naming the tuner. But being new to actual custom tunes, I hoped for a better "help line". Understanding this type of business has grown greatly, its been 3 weeks since I have owned it.
I am going to check into any possibilities I can, but being new, its not easily comprehended. I currently have 119k miles on it and had all the fluids changed/flushed @ 98k. There is a specific question I have and have asked with no reply.
When loading the tune, I click on adjust settings. I believe the first option is global spark, which I do not mess with. Going through, I click on the pressure and take it to 25%. I do that for each 1-2 2-3 3-4 hitting done after each. When I am actually done, I want to exit out. But it keeps taking me back to the adjust options. So I will hit cancel after going through the steps of adjusting the shift pressure. The actual tune installs, so am I not doing something right with the adjustments?
Sorry if my explanation is confusing, its the only way I know how @ this point to explain it.

You need to navigate to the loading step without canceling. I use an Xcal2 so the menu is slightly different.
Here's that manual - see page 7: http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/X3_SF3Manual.pdf
"Once you have selected each option to change, you will be prompted to save all
adjustments. Once the adjustments have been saved to file, you will be prompted to
continue the upload process. "
So - I typed all of that last reply for nothing

Very well might be the case. After I back out[cancel the adjustments], the tune will load. But there is no other option after I do the adjustments to save them. So its done, then goes right back to global spark after completed. I have to hit cancel to get out of that screen, then it prompts to load the tune. I have reviewed the CD that came with it, and no luck there trying to figure it out.
I guess my only option is to call another tuner or SCT to figure it out???

OR - as stated in my earlier post - you can get one tune revision for free - ask VMP for a tune with the pressures bumped by default - 'agressive shift points'

Additionally, and I should have mentioned this earlier, I was able to download an X3 User Manual from SCT's website once upon a time. It's not "super" specific on how you enter the options, but it DOES indicate that after you have entered them, you will be given the opportunity to "save them", before proceeding with the upload process.

Yeah - I mentioned this back here: https://www.f150online.com/forums/4345546-post7.html
This is where you need to focus on with SCT's tech folks.
For chits&giggles can you post up the firmware revision on yer unit? (They'll ask anyway).
thanks
