Edge Evolution Vs. Superchips Flashpaq

Hello all I am new to the forum and yes, I have already done plenty of searching on this topic. I am looking at buying a used programmer and right now my options are a Superchips flashpaq for $100 or an older model handheld Edge Evolution for $20 that is locked and will have to be sent to Edge to be reflashed for $75. First of all, does the older model Edge have the same program as the newer model that mounts to the dash? Secondly, how does the Flashpaq compare? I know the Evo is the site favorite but if i could get the Flashpaq for the same price and less headache I will if it compares. And finally, should I just forget the two and go for a new Sct X3? I am looking for noticible power difference and some MPG on the side. I have and 02 FX4 with the 5.4. Thanks in advanace!

If you don't want any headaches down the road stay away from the edge evolution due to a known cable issue and that goes for the monochrome Gryphon as well for the 97-03+04h f150.
The above statement doesn't pertain to the edge/Gryphon CS/CTS.

Nothing wrong with a superchips programmer except its used and you may run into a vin lock issue with it.

Other than than that I think an SCT with custom tunes would be more suited to your liking.

I agree with 88Racing completely here. I'd definitely stay away from the old Edge. That's old technology and probably needs to be retired. You might also want to take a look at a programmer from DiabloSports.

But would the X3 be worth the extra $250 I would have to pay since I can't find a used one?

Yes.....
Warranty and knowing that's its new and going to work along with customer support.

Go the other way and you may get hosed.

But as far as performance goes will I see a significant difference between the two? Because I can test it first before I use it to make sure its unlocked. Its a local sale. And I really don't want to spend that much more money if its not going to be that big of a difference.

Probably no "significant" difference (that you could feel). If you can test the Superchips and you like the result, go for it.

I'd definitely stay away from the old Edge.

Superchips Flashpaq

No issues with my Superchips Flashpaq. A noticeable improvement over factory tune. Just return to stock tune once a month and check for online updates. The Superchips website is easy to navigate, has a forum page and customer service is top quality.

Just my input.

Not to high jack the thread from the op.......
But
Returning the truck to stock and checking for updates once a month?
For one, you're giving your battery a work out.
For two, you're being overly punctilious.
For three, I don't think that there is a programming product out there that requires a monthly update.
For four, I could see updates every 6 months.

I'm done with my rant

Punctilious???

WOW! Someone got up on the smart side of the bed!

FWIW, I agree. Every month is not worth it. In fact, with a mature product that is working well I would update once a year (or when tech support told me to).

88racing,

Let me re-phrase my earlier post... I do not update my Flashpaq once a month. I actually do it about every 4 to 6 month's. I meant that it is possible to update it once a month. You can contact SC's and they can recommend an update based on the serial # of the programmer.

I have been a little under the weather and had taken a day off from work. I will attempt to be more accurate in my future post's.

I have had ZERO issues with my SC Flashpaq. I recommend researching all option's before jumping in to a purchase of any brand programmer.
