used tuners?

im dying to get my truck tuned, but i just cant scrape up the $$ for a new tuner. i know they got used tuners all over ebay, but some of them are for specific vehicles. do they differ from vehicle to vehicle? is there anyway to program them for my truck?

Hi

My two biggest concerns with used:

1. No warranty
2. Getting stuck with an expensive brick - like this horror story: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...programer.html

It's imperative that any used tuner be returned to stock before you buy it!

A used custom flash device can be reprogrammed by a tuner for a fee - typically $60/tune (or less if you buy several tunes at once). Some do charge more. You load these yourself using the free utilities provided by the hardware manufacturer.

You could also find a used canned tuner ( Superchips, etc) that supports yer model year - same caveat applies about the unit being returned to stock. Most of these are already programmed with generic tunes for your truck - and some can even be internet-updated.

Refer to the manufaturers' websites for info, or call them.

And - what Jake said

No there are not. Once the tune is loaded into the truck, the programmer is VIN locked.

Either set the truck back to stock or send it to the manufacturer to get it reset (for a fee).

Concentrate your search for SCT or Diablo products.
Stay away from edge for the 97-03+04h f150 this includes Gryphons for those year trucks also due to a known issue with the cable that can cause issues down the road.
