Kudos to Linear Logic (the Scangauge folks)!
Recently, my SGII had intermittent display illumination issues, and finally the backlight went south completely.
I contacted Linear Logic support and they quickly confirmed it was not the cable but a possible cold solder joint or two.
They offered FREE repair, even though the unit is now well out of warranty.
Being an inveterate nearsighted tinkerer, reluctant to be without the thing for long, and residing in Canuckistan, I decided to attempt the repair myself. They very promptly sent me visuals of where to focus on the pc board to effect the repair.
I just finished up - works great !
Now that is Stellar Customer Service !
Nothing beats a great product backed by Exemplary support and very nice folks!
Scangauge II has earned the MGDfan Seal of Approval!
Go get one!

That's a great post, MGD! I know I'll always support a business that seems to be interested in more than just "You're doing something wrong." Any company that can "problem solve" with me, even if it involves work on my part, has got my backing, all the way.
Cold solder joints, or cracked joints, seem to be an increasing problem now don't they? I repaired my Honda's radio with that problem and more recently, the lighted window switches in my F150 for the same "cracked joint" issue. I've found a good, high power magnifying glass (eyepiece) is very helpful when looking at circuit boards.

I guess we're not over it yet. People are still getting all excited over ScanGauge II. I remember when it seemed like everyone had to have one. I got one right away. Then a bunch of my friends bought them too. Like a dummy, I permanently installed mine into the dash of my car - completely defeating the feature of being able to use it in different cars. This caused me to have to buy something else to do the same exact thing in my other cars. I ended up buying the ElmScan 5 to use with a little netbook running Windows 7 Professional.
I still love my ScanGauge II. Anyone new to the forum who doesn't have one should get one.
