I'll add to that, the expected level of support in case their are issues with the hardware, the truck, or some combination.

In almost every case I can recall, TP, PHP, VMP, and 5Star have provided better support (technical knowledge/depth and timeliness) than the tuner manufacturers.

As for the warranty - you can wipe your butt with it. There is no way you will be able to prove it was the tuner and Ford can easily say it was; leaving you right in the middle. You'll spend more $ trying to make one or the other pay for it than the actual repair cost.

Finally, why would you be worried about spending $300 (more) to re-program your $30k truck's computer?

Just my $.02. Good luck please let us know how it goes.

MGD
I can see this as being necessary due to the significance of the impact that a supercharger has on a vehicle.

Give the guy a break. Hes buying a programmer from a known company, even a sponsor on the board. Im sure he knows that if something breaks there is a chance they wont cover it under the warranty. Hell every warranty falls into this category if you all want to dig that deep.

Congrats again on purchasing the Cortex, im jealous of your discount!!!! I cant wait to read your reviews on it, im sure they will be positive .

Let me know how the Cortex works out for you. I just returned mine after having it just short of the 30 money back guarantee. I noticed little to no change in mpg or performance. I did use it to tow and it seemed to help a little bit with the shift points, but I had to run premium fuel. I wished I had researched more, because for the $379 at Autoanything I could have spent a bit more and gotten custom tunes with and SCT. The Cortex, at least for my 2010 w/5.4 offered a heavy tow, performance, 87 octane, and mileage xs tune. The mileage tune actually gave me less mpg, and yes I took a three tank average figured by hand and not the dash readout. I contacted the company as well and they were prompt in their reply, but told me that updates to the unit do not affect the tunes themselves. It was very easy and quick to tune which I liked. Just my opinion on the product, not a bad product but for the cost I expected a bit more.

There is no "break" needed. We, are at least I am not bashing the OP or the product. The OP stated that the main reason he chose this product was the warranty. Reread his first post. I am simply stating my opinion that I believe that is the wrong reason to choose a tuner and that it is simply a marketing tool that will provide little help, should he have engine or transmission problems. I have virtually no knowledge of the Cortex or any other tuner Superchips sells, and I have not bashed their product at all. I appreciate very much their support of this site and I feel that their product is a good, safe tuner and fits a niche. Again, all I was pointing out was that the warranty, in my opinion, is not a viable factor in choosing a tuner. That being said, each person has to analyize what he wants out of a tuner, the risk he is willing to accept should he have a problem with the engine or transmission, and price he will pay for the fun a tuner delivers.

Well my other option was the Edge CS with canned tunes until PHP came out with theirs. I can get that tuner at wholesale as well at a similar price for the Cortex.

When I spoke with Edge on the phone Monday they said that they can send me the tunes for the 09's but not the 10's yet over their Fusion network.

I've been meaning to call Edge back to verify with another coworker that this is possible. I will be calling them today to verify the information. But he did say to buy the one that works for the 08 and I could update it for an 09.

Before you take what Edge tells you at face value, I'd talk to Bill at PHP.

Ok I'm either getting Superchips or Hypertech. Unless someone on here wants to buy an SCT VMP programmer with me at a good price. P

Interesting durant113. I don't have a Cortex, I have the Flashpaq 1865 and I don't have the 6 spd trans in my '07 5.4, but seems we got the same 4 tunes.

The Mileage XS tune also hurt my mileage the one time I tried it but I was told that might happen .... and the 87 Performance tune (that also allows towing up 6K lbs now since an update ... it asks when uploading and it used to ask if over 4K, now it's 6K so the update changed something) .... and the Heavy Tow tune which requires 91 or 93 octane and tows up to veh max .... and the 91 or 93 Performance tune with no towing.

I use the 87 Performance tune and I love it, noticeable power increase atheavy throttle, better response, and the transmission likes it very well, .... and with this tune I consistantly get 1.5 - 2 mpg better mileage than stock as measured over the road both by ScanGageII and by doing the math at fillups.

I never used the high test gas tunes yet, which is why I forget if it's 91 or 93 octane I guess. Superchips gets just about the same peak numbers with the 87 as they do the 91/93 octane Perf tunes, though the high test gas one likely has a faster timing curve and likely makes more low end torque ..... but I'm not into burnouts and I tow what I tow with a "patient" attitude.

I thought the costs was great, I've seen guys here spend double on tuner and some custom dyno tunes on near stock trucks. Mine can tune two at once as well (I think Superchips is the only manufactutrer offering such a feature ... or was when it was debuted).

I agree with others, probably never need that warranty .... but I think it's a good product that Superchips provides.
