Troyer Dynotune report:

Picked up my truck on July 7th from Troyer Performance in Covington,Va (10 minutes from my hometown). Mike and his wife were very personable and they both were happy to answer any questions I had about the truck. He was able to dyno tune the truck in 4 hours and installed a 87 performance, 87 towing, and 93 performance.

The Numbers: on the 87 performance it peaked at 248.56 rwhp, and 299.98 lb/ft torque. My truck is basically stock in performance as you can see on my signature. He explained to me that he would have been able to get more if i didnt have the heavy wheels and tires.

I love the way the truck shifts and I can really feel the difference while in 2nd gear. Are the hp and torque numbers about where you guys would think they would be on a bascially stock truck?

For an 87 tune those are great numbers!

Try the 93 perf

There's my Troyer 93 perf dyno chart. This was back when I had the stock FX4 wheels and tires, true dual exhaust and a 3.25" Air Force One intake. Mine was also tuned via datalogging, if Mike actually had my truck in his shop, on his dyno, I think we could have pulled a little more out of her.

NCSU- Your torque is quite a bit more then what my truck put out (really like your truck by the way).

As opposed to 4 months to 4 years for his mail order tunes.............

Questions: How far in advance do you have to make an appointment to have him do your truck, and how long do you have to leave it for? How much did the programmer, custom tunes, and dyno time cost you?

That's part of it. Also, NCSU had lighter wheels at that time, and this is on a different dyno. Mike's dyno is 'stingy' ( read: realistic, lol).

Add environment differences - ( was it hot in Covington? ), vehicle variations, etc, and you have different results.

GLC - enough already - it's getting old, even fer you whom I really, truly respect.

Thanks.

i have 20" liquid metal magma wheels, and 305/50/20 cooper zeon ltz

So its just a 32 inch tire (no much taller than stock), but but the width is alot more than stock at 12.5

MGD: your right.. there could be alot of factors that could contribute to the reading being different; and I understand that the dyno may give a different reading 2 hours after the fact.

^i think it was about a 3 to 4 weeks from the time I called til the day it was was the dyno.

--they told me that they would get to the truck either the 6th or 7th of july, ended up being the 7th

--took him 4 hours...He said that if it is a stock truck and everything goes perfect it takes 2 hours, he said most trucks take 4 hours to get right, but sometimes a truck doesnt want to cooperate so it may take 6 to 8 hours. He said that it would not leave his shop until it was perfect.

--the programmer was a sctx3 and cost $399 ( 3 custom tunes included)
it was $75 a hour while he was dyno tuning the truck

--so it ended up costing me $718 (tax included), more than I was expecting but I am very pleased with how the truck is performing

Dude, I'm sorry but $718 bucks to tune any vehicle let alone a stock one is absolutely rediculous!

Also, it doesn't take up to 6 hours to tune a vehicle unless there are mechanical issues, then most tuners don't want you to waste their dyno time fixing problems.

There is no science to tuning vehicles, most tuners already have files which will get them very close to where they need to be in the tune. It's not about vehicles not cooperating..lol

^ I wont disagree with you, I didnt think it would take 4 hours either but I wasnt there so i cant dispute and I will take the man's word. I thought it would take 2 hours; so I was guessing around $550 for the job.

-about the vehicle not cooperating...I am just telling you what mike said. I am no expert and I was just trying to pass along the answers to the questions I was asked

-If i were to get the PHP setup, I think it would have been around $560 ( $380 ish for programmer, $180 for all 3 tunes)?

It sucks because most people aren't knowledgeable when it comes time to mod their vehicles.

And now it's so common place to reflash the pcm/tcm's instead of turning a wrench to tune for better performance/fuel economy.

These dyno shops already have files made from previous similar cars/trucks they have tuned on their dynos that it is very simple to have a starting point to tune from, and most of the time it's very small adjustments they have to make to that existing tune.

Most of the time within 2-3 pulls on the dyno it should be done, and that doesn't add up to 6 hours.

I just bought an xcal 3 and 3 custom tunes for my 2009 fx4 from a very well known tuner and I paid $400 bucks. That's about the going rate.

Now let's say you add a cold air intake, or a power adder you'll have to get re-tuned.

I'm not giving you a hard time, but I just hate seeing people waste their hard earned money unnecessarily.

I understand your point trmn8tr

-btw when I said i had a basically stock truck I meant that I dont have anything that has added a significant amount of power(supercharger, pulleys, fans, etc). I do have the gotts mod and a SI/DO exhaust w/ high flows but I dont think those are adding that much power.
