It stands for a certification issued by the state of California. For a vehicle mod to be legal in CA, it must be certified. The Edge has this certification, but if Edge modifies the unit in any way or allows it to be modified, they would lose that certification and they have chosen not to do that. The Gryphon is not CARB certified, so is not at risk of losing anything but sales in CA.

It has nothing to do with the units performance. It is just a label that says all Edges have been certified. That they are emmissions acceptable in CA.

Not sure about that but your main performance increases are going to come with custom tunes....something the Edge is not capable of.

Bluejay, thanks for all the previous advice btw. I've ordered and paid for my Gryphon with an 87 performance tune. I'm like a kid at Christmas right now.

It means that if you take it to get inspected, they won't automatically deny passing just because it has an Edge on it. It still has to pass the test, but won't be denied for being modified.

You're welcome, you will love it. My 87 Perf has about the same power as level 3 did and the downshifting is far superior.

am debating on sending mine in to be upgraded to the gryphon and getting the 87 performance tune, just don't know if i can stand to drive my truck at stock for a month waiting for the upgrade and tune. especially since i tow a boat during the summer weighing 3500#'s and i like the tow tune. ughhhh what to do.

I would wait till after the summer, I would not be able to stand it, myself. Then I would consider getting the 87 Perf and a custom 87 tow tune, if I towed a lot.
