Need help with the edge evolution
Need help with the edge evolution
I have an 06 f 150 with the edge evo chip on it. When I start it the alarm is going off and the gauges are shaking like their cold and the truck won't start!! Any ideas and help???
If you're seeing gauge sweep, you most likely have a dead battery. DISCONNECT the Edge (so that it won't get fried by a voltage surge) and have your battery load tested. If it fails, replace it. Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition key to ON, THEN reconnect the Edge. You should be good to go at that point.
If the battery is good, then reconnect the Edge with the ignition ON and reset the tune to stock (DO NOT do this with a weak battery)! Then, see if the truck will start.

Good you got it going. There are several symptoms of a dead or dying battery and gauge sweep is one.
Another though, since you have an Edge, is that the Edge screen won't go off when you shut the truck off. If it does this, it is drawing considerable power from your battery which will kill it quickly, but, you can use this behavior as an "early warning" of a dying battery.
Finally, if you start the truck and the Edge screen stays blank, shows an error message, or otherwise acts "flaky", it may mean you've got a weak battery too. What happens in this case is that the voltage drops below the threshold needed by the Edge to stay "booted" as you are cranking. Then, since it is already plugged in, when the voltage comes back up due to the alternator, it won't reboot properly. Voltage has to be present at the OBDII port BEFORE you plug the Edge in for it to initialize.
