Question Programmer questions

Ok first off I just wanna say I've done plenty of searches and read all the stickys. That being said, I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for in a programmer/ tuner/ whatever. I know i want it to be like the Edge in that it mounts on the dash (or somewhere near) and has all those cool displays mpg , mph and such. I also know that I want to be able to get custom tunes for it (which i believe is not possible for an Edge). So i would turn to the Gryphon with PHP custom tunes but I really do not want to wait 3-6 months just to get my tunes. So am I up a creek or is there a programmer with in mountable display and custom tune-ability without waiting for an eternity to get it? Any help would be greatly apreciated...

Check out the SCT Livewire custom tuned by VMP.

The Livewire and the Gryphon are pretty much it for custom tunes and a display.

I am pretty sure PHP ships the Gryphon with canned tunes in about a week from order date. The wait is for the custom tunes.

I think the $569 includes 3 custom tunes.

You have an expensive truck...do you really want to 'go cheap' on the component that's going to modify your truck's computer?

Just sayin'.

Good evenin' Gentlepeoples! And Welcome, Mr.Newbie!

Indeed - Sir Shotgunz has, once again, shown incisive and compelling judgement here.

The alternative of an Xcal3 plus a Scanguage II would result in approximately the same expenditure.... just fyi ...

OP, sir. It is unfortunate you did not likewise research the Volant. That intake is a lackluster performer - they actually lay down above 4,000 rpm, and also are not optimally designed to avoid lean tendencies in some trucks (which is not something easily detected without measurements, I'm afraid).

The money for that intake could have been redirected towards a custom tuner, and you just could have done the Gotts intake mod (~$10) and call it a day, happy as a clam, lol.

But - that is in the past, and hindsight is, as they say, 20/20 - if you cannot find it within yeself to wait, then the 2 routes mentioned above are about it - Gryphon + canned now + wait fer custom, or SCT Livewire from VMP - a couple weeks max - or you can pay extra for the Expedited option and get it in days.

Either of the tuners will be able to properly correct for yer existing intake.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

Cheers!

Well the Volant was actually already on the truck when i bought it so I really had no choice. So would you recomend a new CAI before I get the tuner?

Good morning.

10-4 ...understood sir.

I would just leave it, or perhaps just revert to the stock intake with the Gotts/DWV intake moderooni (but you'd need the stock intake to actually do that, lol).

Buying yet another CAI would be a needless extra expense - those funds would be better directed elsewhere.

Good luck sir.

I know PHP is playing catchup right now, but I don't think they are THAT backed up - those sound more like Troyer wait times.

The PHP website says 4-6 weeks for custom tunes. I know they've had some unexpected things come up recently so they may bit slightly backed up but I know they're doing everything they possibly can to get tunes out the door.

Just got my tuner from PHP this past Monday. They shipped fast, the hang up was UPS. They took 4 or 5 days to ship it from GA to AL. I could have driven there and back in a day.
