Need a Tune?

I am getting ready to put long tube headers, no cats, on my 2000 5.4 and it has an after market CAI.
Is there a programmer with a canned tune or will I need to purchase a customer tune.

I do some small trailer hauling but not very often and would like to try and increase gas mileage.

Please let me know your thoughts on type of programmer and cost of each suggested model name etc.

You need custom tunes and I would suggest checking out VMP and PHP. Have you read the sticky at the top of the tuner forum?

I did read the QA thread, which was a good lesson to me.
I guess I just needed some guidance from people who actually have these type of units and what would be the best route for me to take.
From what I understand, I can buy a programmer and load the tune that is on the programmer but those are not the best with trucks with mods. So I would need to order a customer tune which I would think could be loaded on the programmer or through email???

Yes, you choose the hardware and tuner you want to deal with, buy the hardware that comes with canned tunes. You communicate your mods to the tuner, he writes a program specifically for your truck and mods and emails it to you. In some instances, you can place the order and they will send the unit with the custom tunes already preloaded. The canned tunes are primarily for stock set ups. You will need custom, with the intake and headers.

I don't have a programmer....YET......but I've done quite a bit of reading on them and the way I understand it is you get the tune sent to your email then you load it into the programmer. You then use the programmer to load it onto your truck.

BTW we are almost neighbors, I live in Sterling Heights. I have grandparents out in Metamora off Lake George and Newark.

Got it.
Looks like the best path would be to order the custom tune with the programmer. Shouldn't have any issues with that route.
Fred06FX4, yep we are not too far away. Usually I am in your area twice a week. Used to work at 18 and mound but now I am over at Long Lk at 75.
You may see me in a couple of weeks with a loud red 2000 runnin down 18 mile. lol

z67, what CAI do you have on your truck?

We have some very nice, well developed CAI canned tunes available in the Predator and Trinity for the F150s.

I believe it is the Spectra from Autozone.

Not a real CAI but it looks and works nice.

I have a picture but am unable to attached it to this message.
