Edge Evo, level 2 and trailer weight

To the OP:
You need to figure out your total combined weight of the trailer and payload.
Edge/Gryphon performance tunes are only rated up to 2500 lbs for towing.
The edge towing tune would be better.
Just read this from another post. Could be a really dumb question, but what if I am using the Edge on the tow package, pulling a trailer weighing 3000 - 3500 pounds?

Level 2 (tow) is the correct tune for anything over 2500 lbs. Levels 1 and 3 should not be used to tow anything over 2500 lbs.

Is it fine to run the 'Tow Tune' while empty too? Or should you go back down to level 1?

You can run level 2 without a load, but your MPG may suffer.

In my experience, economy did not suffer when using the Level 2 tow tune and not towing. It actually improved over stock. Possibly, the Level 1 tune COULD be more economical, but since it is a transmission only tune, I doubt there would be a significant change. I thought the Level 2 tune was a good daily driver tune.

Bluejay, felt that it lost power in the higher RPM ranges. I didn't notice that myself and really liked the way it performed while passing someone on the highway. I suspect some of this is subjective.

If subjective means you are an old fart and can't tell that you are losing torque at higher rpms, I think you are correct.

Thank you for your input!

I just purchased a used Edge today. Don't have the coin to go Gryphon just yet, so want to get used to the unit and see if I like whats going on. Then I might just get it upgraded. I love how the truck performs now (much better then my old cheby) so any gain is going to be better. I do pull quite a bit, so the changes to the tranny in level 2 should be very fitting to my needs.

Can't wait to get it hooked up and start learning what its all about!

please define "old fart" so I'll know whether or not to put myself in that catagory and know if I should look for threads dealing with "old" and "fart" only or just not-the-sharpest-pencil-in-the-box info.

"Old fart" is more a state of mind than age. Jack is just 3 or so years older than me, but I'm not an "old fart". You need to study his posts and you will see what I mean. I'm still a kid.

Yes, I am a noob. But, that is why I continue to ask questions - pointed at those who know. In the tow tune, if I am towing a trailer, wouldn't I want torque in the higher RPM range as well as the lower?

Jim and I noticed the same thing. An 87 performance solved that... MPg's are at last summers level too on the current winterblend.

What I experienced with my truck was running on a two lane road and needing to pass at 60 mph, hitting it, level 2 just did not pull that hard. Same on the freeways around DFW. With the level 3, it pulled hard till I let off. So, When I got the custom tune, I told Bill that I wanted it to pull hard all the way and I wanted it to kick down to a lower gear at almost any point. He nailed it for me.

Jim is spot on... the custom tuning fixed it. Pulls all you need. 2 would crap out when merging. I have punched it a few times and I am up to speed very quickly
