Help with Choosing Flasher

Well to start I have a 2000 f-150 w/4.6L V8. Only mods at this point are the gotts intake and dual exhaust. I have been reading a ton of info about where to get my custom tunes from, etc. The first question is; what flasher to get? Trying to decide between the gryphon tuned by PHP, the livewire, or just the xcal 3. Once that decision is made, then comes the hard part. Where to get the custom tunes?? I read the great article on turn around times from different places, that just makes the decision that much harder. What are the differences between the gryphon, livewire, and the xcal 3? Please help me decide!!

Either one with custom tunes will met your needs. I had a first gen Edge EVO on my 98 F150, 4.6 4x4, and it worked great. I just traded it in on a new current Generation Evo, for my Expd. I am pleased so far. Actually saw more change in the F150 vs the Expd. Now having the current Gen Evo, the gage option is nice. I will probably send my Evo to PHP eventually for conversion to Gryphon. So my vote is for the Edge/ Gryphon.

So if I understand everything I am reading correctly. The edge evo series only holds 3 tunes, whether they are custom or canned? How many do the others hold? I like the look of the gauges on the display, but don't want to limit myself.

Three tunes should be more than enough (87 economy, 87 tow, and 93 performance) for most users. How many do you think you'll need?

The Edge holds three "canned tunes". The ionly way to get custom tunes for it is to have it upgraded to Gryphon.

The OP can get more than three tunes with a "switch-on-the-fly" chip, such as the Phoenix chip. And, this device WILL work on his truck.

Why anyone would want more than 2-3 tunes though, is completely beyond my understanding.

I don't need a bunch of tunes. Just wanted to make sure I could have the custom tunes I wanted as well as keep the stock tune. So basically I only can get 2 tunes on the edge then, correct?? The stock one and 2 custom or canned tunes.

Sorry for all the confusion. I understand now! The edge can only have the 3 canned tunes it comes with. If I want custom tunes I would have to get like the gryphon or livewire. Has anyone had both of these devices, and if so, one better than the other??

No, you can have three different, non-stock tunes and your stock tune. The non-stock can be any combination of canned or custom, any octane, or combination of octanes.

Read the stickys. There's a ton of information in them.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I have been reading so much about this stuff, that it is all getting mixed together. Anyone have a livewire or gryphon on a similar model year truck and engine combo? Want to know what to expect.

I have an Edge that was converted to a Gryphon. The Edge tunes were great! The Gryphon custom tunes were even better. My truck is newer than yours, so my experience may not be the same as yours would be.

I personally think I got my money's worth in both cases. If I were doing it over again, I'd just start with the Gryphon and custom tunes and be done with it. (Which is what I intend to do whenever PHP starts offering the CTS with custom tunes).

Pretty sure I will be getting the CTS with the canned tunes for now. As soon as PHP has their customs ready, i will upgrade to those. Once again, thanks for all the info!!
