***2005 Gryphon with CAI***

I just ordered my Gryphon tonight. I'm waiting on the payment email so I can get the package moving my direction. I was wondering if anyone had corrected their "lean" problem that is supposedly common in the '05s when you run a programmer with a CAI. I will be running the Gryphon with canned tunes until I get ansty and go after the upgrades

Let me know if you have had any personal experience with the Gryphon and a CAI. Also, the Gryphon is going to be like a typical programmer where you can adjust for tire size, shift firmness etc????....stupid question, I know...double checking.

canned tunes are not custom tunes, DO NOT RUN THE CAI until your custom tunes arrive

Right now I've got stock gears (which I'm probably going to keep) and 35s. Needless to say my truck does not like taking off from a stop. I don't have any experience with programmers...what should I experience when I plug this thing in for the first time. Also, if anyone other there is running a programmer on 35s...what kind of gas mileage are you getting ??

Yes, you can correct tire size, firmness and so on with a Gryphon.

Custom tunes will compensate for the lean condition caused by the CAI.

Like has been said, don't run the cai without a tune that is made for the cai. Any time the maf tube housing changes size you must accommodate it by tuning for it.

Gears would be a good mod after the tuner and cai. I'm running 35" tires on my truck, a custom tuned Xcal3, and a S&B cai (since it is a closed design), and 4.56 gears. Before the gears, tune, and cai I was getting 15 mpg and now I'm getting roughly 17 mpg with mixed driving.

Not sure what order you did you installs but what kind of mpg did you get after you installed the CAI, but before the gears (if that's the way you installed it). Also, how much $ were the 4.56's ?

The exhaust is safe to install, but once again. IF YOU INSTALL A CAI ON A STOCK 2004-2005 OR ONE WITH CANNED TUNES SUCH AS COME IN THE EDGE AND GRYPHON, YOU RUN A HIGH RISK OF RUNNING LEAN, AND DOING SEVERE DAMAGE TO YOUR ENGINE. With a Gryphon, you can get custom tunes that will make it safe for the CAI. Additionally, you get marginal benefit with a CAI and a stock or canned tune, so why risk it?

You're not taking full advantage of your mods. And, I'm not really convinced the CAI is completely safe to use with canned tunes, but, that's just a gut feeling of mine.

well at this moment I am not using the edge(hopefully in a week or two)...im in a bit of a bind with it, I posted a thread about it a couple days ago. Should I be worried about running lean with the CAI with stock tune?

As far as I know, the "lean condition" with a CAI was a serious issue on only the 04 and 05 trucks, due to their PCM calibrations. I don't think it's much of a problem for you. However, Bill Cohron has suggested that if you do use a "canned" tune with the CAI that you use the Level 2 tow tune, because it's somewhat richer than the others, and, try not to get on it "hard".

When I first got my programmer, I used the Level 2 tune as a "daily driver" tune and I was very happy with the way it performed. Then I got custom tunes and was even happier.
