used X2
used X2
I bought a used Troyer kit from someone who sold their truck. I got a AF1 CAI, Magnaflow Exhaust and the X2 for $300. Great deal seemingly. I put it all on and it seems to be working fine but then someone told me that I can not use a custom tune from someone elses truck even though it is the same engine and year... It seems to be running fine but I am concerned about the claims that it won't work. What should I be looking for if it is "not working" Any help is great. Thanks
The Xc2 is vin locked to the vehicle that it was originally tuned for. Actually, I am not sure if it is locked to the actual vehicle or the vehicle's computer code and strategy. When you try to flash (install) the new program you will see an error message and the new program will not be loaded. Have you tried to flash the new tune yet?
It was set back to stock before I bought it. I did load it on and I didn't get any error messages. It seems to have loaded fine and it is deffinetly driving differently. it holds shifts longer, no lean codes ( I did have before the tune with only the CAI on). I am still on the first tank so I dont know about the millage yet.
The status was stock so I reset that on the computer. I dont know what my strategy code was or is. What kind of issues will I have? It doesn't stall, rough idle, throw any codes....

Hook up the X2 to your truck and read your current strategy. It will be a seven digit alphanumeric code. Compare this with the strategy of the tunes. Unless they are identical do not use the tunes on the tuner. You will likely get a "no start" situation once you load the tune. You may be lucky and be able to start if you return the PCM to stock, otherwise, you are looking at a tow to the dealer for a PCM reflash.
The tunes are specific to the vehicle they were written for: axel ratio, engine, tire size, etc.
I suggest that you have tunes specifically written for your truck. Troyer and VMP both write very good tunes. Justin at VMP will most likely turn around the tune quicker.

But, I would have Troyer or VMP write you tunes for your truck. They will replace the tunes that are currently on your X2. And, you will get an even better driving experience.
