I paid cash for my Troyer tuner (and every other mod I've ever done).

Ask everyone you know who is in CC debt how many "emergency-only" cards they had. If you get one, be smart about it. No matter how many good or bad stories you hear about CC's, in the end it's up to how you manage your money.

Okay well here's where I stand:

1x checking at First Federal (broke)
1x checking at Bank of America (>$200)
1x savings at Bank of America (>$100)

I am currently unemployed, but eagerly searching. IF I got a CC with my Bank of America (I'll go look into the rates in a second) I could have it in my posession for however long as I want and they only charge interest when you actually make a purchase? IF I do get it, I'm thinking of getting the tuner (after I have secured a job first) and then just locking it away until I get that paid off.

Thanks for the help guys. You guys are more help than my dad

So you basically have $300 to your name and you want to buy a $400 tuner on a 14% credit card.

What's crazy is Bank of America will let him. And we wonder why this country is broke.

Well if you actually read my posts you would understand that I would wait until I have a little more money before I make the purchase

If you get that card you'll buy a tuner. I just have a hunch.

Well first of all it takes what, 1-3 months for a custom-tuned one to come in? I wouldn't pay for something I havent even got yet, so I would hold out.

Besides, I want UDP first. Tuner will be the last thing coming in. Maybe in a month or so I'll proably be ordering one, CC or not.

Good luck on your decision. I was in your shoes about 4 yrs. ago when I was 18. I wanted a CC to help build credit. I did get one but was only approved for a $400.00 balance. I think I am up to around 5-7k balance now. So it does prove to help your credit score. Don't be stupid with it though. Use it just like a debit card. No you have that money there as soon as you make the purchase. Soon as my bill comes in I pay it off completely, I cant stand spending money I didn't even purchase anything with *interest*! My suggestion would be to try and get one just don't buy a tuner with it till you have the money saved.

You will be amazed as to how fast debt will increase. You may purchase a $400 tuner but by the time its paid for you could very well have 5,6,700 invested after interest. Just be smart man and good luck.

thanks rabbit. just looking at the interest rates are keeping me away. my dad has been getting offers as low as 9% in the mail (his credit score is 850+) and laughs at them so I'm going to stick to his advice and maybe hope he'll chip in for a tuner

I'm a newb with this credit stuff thought. I've got the basic principal that you buy something, and pay it off with interest but everytime I hear something about credit people talk about it like the devil. I'm afraid to get one but its the only way I can get a tuner.
Dont get a CC! And dont think that "Oh I'll buy one thing and then pay it off" cause then you'll be like hey I need this! and hey I need that. And before you know it. It's maxed out.

And I paid cash for my programmer.

This is an interesting thread. I wonder how many of you guys really do use credit cards daily though.

On a side note, the credit industry is a completely different ball game now a days. Companies use to like to see someone charge $500 and pay it off the next month. Now a days they hate it. They also will drop your card if you don't charge anything. Not saying it happens indefinitely but I've seen it happen.
