I just hate the (lack of) throttle response in my SCrew. Is it worth it to get some tunes just for better acceleration? I don't tow; I just want to pass on the freeway without out that 1.5 second delay when I floor it. Also I'm going up slightly in wheel size. (from 255/65/17 to 305/60/18). Your input is greatly appreciated.

LOL. Thanks Punisher. I see you use the Edge Evo. I was thinking of either the Gryphon with PHP or Troyer and superchips. Any opinion on those?

The Gryphon with custom tunes is the only way I want to go. I would hate to go back to driving my truck without the tunes.

So there is a definite increase in throttle response? Is it still a smooth ride though? Are the shifts way different?

The factory builds slippage into the shifts. Older people and those not into performance normally do not like firm shifts. This slippage creates heat and extra wear in the transmission. I requested very firm shifts as that is what I like. With a custom tune, the program can be written to suit you. You will get maybe 25 to 30 horsepower, much better shifting and even more improved downshifting. I had to have better downshifting to keep from getting run over in freeway traffic and on two lane highways.

I went with Troyer Perfomance and have been running a 93 octane performance tune for about 3 years now. Throttle response was greatly improved, shifts are firmer and quicker. Couldn't be happier.

Have you had any problems at all with tunes? I worry about "gumming up" the works by messing with the "software" of the truck. Are there any reliability concerns when using a custom tune?

Are there performance tunes available for 87 octane? I live in San Diego and the 91 is very expensive. I don't think we even have 93 out here.

I have over 60,000 miles on my truck with tunes. Never a problem. I now have over 90,000 on the truck and if my unit went out, I would order another. I can't imagine not having it. Also, I use the gauges constantly, as I drive. The Edge and the Gryphon are the same hardware and have a monitor. The Edge can not be custom tuned, has canned tunes only.

No issues, would definitely get another tune from Mike.

I have an 87 Performance tune and a 93 Performance. I run the 87 Performance almost exclusively. Does everything I need.

Yes I read it. I just wanted to hear from some folks about it. See if anyone's had any major problems running a tune. Thanks for the input.
