ECM Question? Help!!!!
Ok
Apparently the ECM in my 2001 Harley Davidson F150 went out. I got the "----------" on my dash when I turned the key. I had it towed to a Ford Dealership and they said they tried multiple things like switching and reseating the ecm power relay and trying the second key just in case it was a bad chip in the key. He told me it was definitly the computer and it would take 3 weeks to get in. I was in the process of getting a rental and I got a call from the dealership. Three days in the shop and they told me the truck was ready...?...I was surprised and told him how could that be if he told me the day before the part was on back order for 3 weeks. He also said it was the chip that caused the computer to burn out. I have been running that chip (troyer performance) for 5 years and never had a problem. Well the bill for new ecm, relay, and labor totaled $980.00. I would like to question the dealership honesty that the ecm was actually swapped. Do these ecms have serial numbers or something that I could compare? I just want to be sure that I am not paying a grand for a tech to remove a performance chip. Your input is appreciated.

I know with the older PCM's there is a core charge, but you might ask them to put your old parts in the truck. I don't think they have individual serial numbers on them. Did you try starting it without the chip? I can see how a chip might become corrupted and cause your issue, but I don't know about burning up the PCM. Frankly, I find it a little hard to believe. I'd call Troyer and quiz them on the possibility. That fact they had to replace the relay leads me to believe it may have been responsible for the failure.
Go here and request a OASIS report on your VIN#, these guys are Ford techs and will give you a list of what has been done to the truck (if it was put in the system?): http://www.flatratetech.com/communit...p?showforum=18
Ok picked up my truck. I requested a Oasis report from the service manager and the only thing it showed was the cruise control replacement which was done six months ago. He said the report only holds 12 months worth of data and it didnt even show the ecm replacment or the other repairs since 2001. I wanted to do a little research before I talked to the Main Manager. What exactly should a Oasis report show and how soon does it get updated after the repair?
Thanks... I am going to post my VIN on the link above.

mrlucio,
The first thing you can check is whether or not the J3 connector (where the chip plugs in) has the factory fresh silicone coating on the connector and the black plastic plug that covers the hole. If the cap is missing and the board is scoured, then they didn't replace the PCM. At that point I'd raise holy hell and get on the phone with a lawyer and every local TV station you can find.
Also, Oasis maintains a complete warranty history, not just the last 12 months. If you need, I can pull an oasis report on your truck. As IRS indicated, it will only show warranty items.
Carlos, does your truck run? What exactly is happening? What programmer are you using? Need more information.
Thanks.
