Hypertech max energy vs. superchips micro 1714 vs. hypertech power programmer III

Im looking for a good tuner to help out with my tires and gas mileage a lil bit and so far this is what i have come up with. Out of the three, which one is the best overall tuner for re-calibrating, shifts points & firmness, mpg, towing, and a good 87octane tune. I have 35's and they can be a struggle when towing a boat through the ozarks so i need somethin.

They are all equally terrible. Check out EDGE, PHP Gryphon, or VMP Xcal. Everything else is a waste.

The 35's are killing you. You've effectively "regeared" your truck downwards with them. So, you've killed your torque output.

You really need to regear your truck (BOTH axles if it's a 4x4). I could tell you what gears to use to get back the original torque if you tell me your stock tire size and stock gears.

However, a programmer will help too. It just won't work miracles.

I have 35x12.5 r18 toyo m/t's with 3:73 ls. Ive heard the 4:56's work well with 35's but its expensive to change them and id rather just wear out the tires i have and shoot for some 33's later. Im just looking for something to help out with the problem now, not a miracle. I love the way my truck looks and if i can get a tuner to help out with mileage and a lil towing then im happy. Im not looking to spend a fortune here. I just have the chance to buy a tuner really cheap so i figured id get some input. Now later on when i have some more money in the pocket im for sure getting custom tunes but right now money is tight.

If money is tight don't buy a crappy tuner, don't buy any tuner for that matter. Wait until you can actually afford a good one.

2004Lariat5.4,

Hypertech's tuning picks up 25 HP @ 3500 RPM and 40 Ft-Lbs @ 1700 RPM which should really help compensate for those 35's you're running. It can also correct your speedometer for tire sizes up to 54 inches! And in case you decided that you need a gear swap to help with pulling your boat it can correct for gear ratio changes from 2.73:1-4.56:1. You also get the option to adjust shift points & firmness along with adjusting top speed and rev limiter.

You can try the Max Energy for yourself for 30 days risk free, if it doesn't do what you want to do just return it for a no questions asked full refund.

The big diffrence between the Max Energy & PP3 for your truck is going to be that the Max Energy is internet updateable while the PP3 isn't.

Unless you're planning on doing something like installing headers I don't see what you would gain with a custom tune vs. a Hypertech tune.

Just ordered my hypertech tonight. I chose to go with a hypertech because i know a lot of people with them and i have heard nothing but good things, and i only live 10 minutes from where hypertech is located so if anything ever goes wrong im just minutes away from help. Plus, the performance shop i went to strongly suggested hypertech over any other tuner/programmer (superchips, edge, etc..) and he actually makes more money off the other tuners. It should be here within the next week and im looking forward to seeing what it can do.

well for $150, id say its worth it. I have no doubt that custom tunes are better, but they are also expensive where as i just baught a hypertech for less than half the price. So to me its worth it. plus, once i start making more money here in another month ill prolly sell this one for the same price i got it for and get a gryphon. so really im not out anything.

You should bring it by sometime, we'll snap some pics and give you a tour of the place.

And, if you're happy, that's what matters. Let us know what you think of it when you get it installed.
