No customs available for hypertech. Your looking at 3 choices from at least 4 different tuners.
1 php gryphon
2 troyer xcal3/livewire
3 vmp xcal3/livewire
4 5-star xcal3/livewire
Do exhaust then tuner then cai.
Tires? Stock or oversized?
If stock do first.
If oversized do after tuner you'll be able to adjust tire size.

Buyer Beware
A used one?
Good luck!
It would work. Since your truck is a 04. Note: you will not have a warranty from edge(not transferable). You would have to check with php to see what theirs is. Cost is goto powerhungryperformance.com click on products and go all the way down to edge upgrades.
Used gryphons are out there but their warranties don't transfer either. Then if you did find a used one the likelyhood of it working with your truck's HEX code is slim if it already has customs.
Just save some cash and avoid the frustrations and go new.

Same thing, Used price + conversion price + custom tunes.
You may save a little but as with any used item there is no warranty etc.
If you just wanted the canned tunes for your stock truck a used one can be a good deal.

You get the Gryphon in about a week, with canned tunes. It's the custom tunes that you wait on.

If you don't want to wait a long time check with Justin @ VMP tuning. He doesn't have the Gryphon or Evolution but he does load his custom tunes on Xcal3's. I wanted the Gryphon at first but I'm not a very patient person (I know, I know.... that's a bad thing most of the time) and couldn't wait that long for custom tunes. I've heard their tunes are AWESOME though if you can wait it out. I've heard lots of good things about VMP as well so I opted to go with them.
well i have a stock 5.4 right now so i see no need for tunes yet but when i get exhaust, cai, and cams then ill wait or.....
how do you like your tunes and xcal3? xcal3 is a uploader not a display also right?

Even the canned tunes really wake the stock truck up. Add about 25 or so HP. Plus greatly improved shifting. I would wait on custom tunes till you get the mods done.

No. They should really be called mfg tunes (manufacture tunes), the word "canned tunes" is technically incorrect as stock tunes are technically canned as well IMO.
They probably aren't exactly the same but between the Gryphon and Xcal3 I would say they are most likely very close. I don't have experience with both so don't quote me on that.
And yes you are correct the Xcal3 is just a programmer with no gauge display. If I didn't already have the CAI I would have ordered the Gryphon w/custom tunes, ran the canned tunes until the custom tunes were ready, and then purchased my CAI. However I got a good deal on the CAI and I was ready to use it. I'm sure you would be happy with any of the reputable tuners tunes. Your main decision is whether or not you want a gauge display.
