New tuner in northeast Louisiana!!

Just thought I would post a link to a new tuner in Louisiana. I have heard alot of good reviews about this guy and plan to get him to tune my f150 in a couple weeks. He doesn't have access to a dyno but he's at the local dragstrip alot and will tune your truck there so you can see the improvement's in your time slip. I know that gryphon and justin are just as good at tuning but this guy only lives about 45 minutes from me so if I have any problems I could get it fixed alot quicker since I wouldn't have to mail the programmer back to the tuner. Here's a link to his site. http://www.madtunesracing.com/

I'm just too cautious to let someone that does not have a lot of experience tuning these trucks, mess with mine. There is a lot of difference in race tuning a Mustang and tuning these heavier trucks with their different transmissions. I would trust mine to PHP, Troyer or VMP, only. Good luck with it and hope all goes well.

Yea I completely understand your statement. He also can't load the tunes onto a module like php, troyer and justin can but I don't swap tunes very often so that's not a big deal. I also don't mind being the guinea pig either. Someone had to be the first person to try troyer, justin and php.

That is very true, but I guarantee, none of them was me! I'm glad there are guys like you that will blaze a trail. Now that I think about it, I did get custom tunes from Bill when he first struck out on his own and was not known well.

There are some GM LS1 tuners in Baton Rouge but this is the first I have heard of an F150 tuner...

I emailed the tuner earlier and he called me back within 20 minutes. He's a cool fella and seems honest. He did tell me that most of his tuning has been done with mustang's and silverado's but he has tuned one 06 4x4 F150 with the 5.4v8. I scheduled an appointment for next wednesday. He can make any changes that any other tuner can make but the main one's I want to change are completely removing the torque management, remove top speed limiter, adjust shift firmness, and adjusting the airfuel ratio so I can safely run my intake. I'm pretty sure that i'll stick with the 87 octane also. He mentioned some other stuff but it's jibber jabber to me as I don't know anything about tuning.

I would recommend someone with Dyno time and years of F150 experience over a Mustang time slip tuner. Tuning for quarter mile times is different than tuning for drive-ability and everyday performance. The trucks are quite different than the Mustangs. My first choice would be Mike at Troyer Performance followed by Justin at VMP or Bill at PHP.

I appreciate your point that everyone has to start somewhere and that we really have to give them a chance.

Now that I've said that, Bill Cohron, at PHP, admits to "windowing" (I think it was) a diesel once upon a time way back in the past while he was still in the "learning mode".

I honestly think new tuners need to be "apprenticed" to master tuners for a while before we want to trust them with something that costs as much as our vehicles. I'm not really willing to let someone "experiment" on mine. It's bad enough that some of the programing devices let you go wild with custom settings that can ruin your ride, if you don't know what you're doing.

I'd be very careful with this guy and I'd tell him to be very conservative with his adjustments.
