Question Anyone have info on 5-Star Tuning?

Spotted 5-star Tuning online and wondering if anyone has feedback on them?
The reason it sounded good to me is that they have a combo package, includes an S&B CAI and Xcal3 for $644.00

Since this is the CAI i was going to order, it's convenient for me. And a bonus is the delivery time! 3-4 days to my door! (Tuned)

Is this too good to be?.......sounds like it since custom tunes are usually a much longer wait.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

I just ordered an SCT X3 tuner form Mike Butler at 5star last week, arrived about 3 days later and I am very impressed. I had emailed my questions to him and within the hour had my answers, I then preceded to call and place my order over the phone to pick out the tunes that would best suite my situation.

I would ask them about their experience with tuning Ford trucks. I would be hesitant to buy from anyone that does not have a lot of experience with the trucks. It is a different ball game from Mustangs.

I run an SCT X3 for my 2001 V10 and am very happy with it. Mike Butler has been a great help anytime I have called for help on my setup. As a matter of fact it arrived in less than a week.

Would I recommend 5 Star Tuning..........I recently purchased an SCT X3 for my 2005 F150 too!

Not a question of customer service, but rather quality of the tuning I'm after. Since the 3V 5.4's are touchy with CAI's & exhaust.

Do you have an aftermarket intake? if so does his tuning compensate for the lean problem w/ 3V's

Bluejay,

This is the feedback I'm looking for, however I don't want to dismiss a company bassed on lack of F-150 history within this forum. I guess what I'm looking for is more info....be it good or bad regarding 5-star to make my decision.

Thanks!

I have the K&N air filter on the V-10 with the Zoodad mod, and have not thrown any codes. The F150 has a True Flow with the foam air filter, and it has not thrown any codes either.

Give Mike a call, he can answer any questions you have. He might have dyno charts for a truck similar to yours. Look in the V-10 section at the "99Dyno'd" thread.

There have been a couple of guys on this site that have used them and seem very pleased. That alone does not mean that they have safe tunes for our trucks, but does speak to their service. Personally, I just do not want to be a beta tester for someone that is moving into truck tuning. That may not be the case here at all as they may have done many Ford trucks, but on a different forum. Again, I would ask them about their experience. You would think that with all the people that visit the different forums we would have heard more about them. I know Troyer and PHP are discussed all the time on other sites as well as this one.

I haven't forgotten them, you're plugging them well enough, I don't need mention them. VMP has a great reputation, but so do Troyer and PHP and if I am recommending tuners, I'll plug the ones that are site sponsers as well as having a great reputation.

Bluejay,

It seems to me as though your leaning towards a negative stand towards 5-Star, which is ok...but have you heard any claims to back your inexperience view with regards to F-150's? I do agree with you about Troyer,PHP & VMP, there is no doubt about it. I just love the fact of getting the S&B intake that I was planning on buying anyway in the deal, and the speed of delivery is great.

Again, I'd hate to dismiss a company for lack of info! So if you or anyone else has more to say about this, post away! I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to hear more on this!

Thanks

Only negative from the stand point of we know nothing about them. If they had a lot of experience tuning these 3V trucks with the weight and trannys they have, you would think we would have heard a lot about them. I'm saying that you need to call them and quiz them about their experience. I would hate for anyone to destroy their truck trying to save $50 to $100 on mods. You buy from Troyer, VMP, or PHP, you buy with confidence as they are proven by many of us. That's it, plain and simple.

I could call...but the outcome would be predictable. No company rep would say outright they do not have any experience, or have boatloads of returns and/or angry customers.

This is why I'm looking for third party info such as this forum. In fact your input is what i'm after! Particularly someone with bad first hand experience....which I've yet to hear!

I'm wondering if it would be frowned upon if I'd purchase the unit then get tunes elsewhere.......what do you guy's think?
