SCT Excaliber 2

I have an SCT Excalibur 2 programmer that I have tunes programed in it for my 07 Mustang Gt, I am going to be trading in my GT and get back into and F150 in the near future.
My question is can I use the programmer on the new 09 F150?
I know the tunes wont work, but how about the tuner itself if I sent it back to Brenspeed to have it re-programmed?

I am fairly new to the programming Tools, just bought an Xcal2 from someone here on the forums. Anyone else can correct me if I am wrong but the XCal2 is for 97-2003? (or was it 4) If I remember right for an 09 you are going to have to get an XCal3, or another programmer that supports that year.

You will have to send it to a dealer to have the unit unlocked to use with a different vehicle. Might as well send it to someone that can get you some custom tunes too. There is a firmware upgrade for use with 2007 and up F-150s that you will also need.

This is not entirely correct.

All you have to do is return your vehicle to stock with the Xcal-2, then it is unlocked and you can use it on other vehicles.

You can download different tunes to it with your computer also. The easiest way is to have a tuner email you the custom/canned tune(s) you purchase. Its not difficult, I did so when I installed my Saleen SC and Brenspeed emailed me the new tunes. All you need is a USB A/B cable to connect it to your computer.

You are right on with the firmware upgrade for '07+ F-150's (you need ver. 1.15), which you can also install yourself and they are found here:

Just returning the vehicle to stock doesn't necessarily mean the unit will be unlocked. Here is the link to SCT's technical writeup on the lock/unlock process. I just bought a used Xcal2 and it is not locked. When I used my original Xcal2 from my previous vehicle to my new truck, the unit was locked, and I did return my old vehicle to stock. However, I have the Advantage software and unlocked it. In any case, the device can tell you if it's locked or not, but apparently if the vehicle was returned to stock and is locked, you can download software from SCT's website to unlock it. If the vehicle was not returned to stock, SCT will have to unlock it, and a fee is involved. The link above will tell you how to determine that.

LiveLoad can unlock devices too.

That's what the link above indicates.

In either case, he won't have to send it to a dealer, nor to SCT as long as he returns the vehicle to stock.
