Edge Tuner Speed Limiter

I have seen that the Edge tuner has a speed limiter on it. For the winter I am going to be getting a plow for my truck and I wanted to know if I could use the Edge to limit the max speed of my truck to 40 mph. According to the plow manufacturers going any faster is dangerous with 700lbs+ of metal mounted to the front of the truck(which makes sense). Just wondering if anybody has one and knows how it works.

If this is true then I may think about getting one because I do have a bit of a lead foot and tend to go faster than I think I am usually.

Also if there are any other tuner options for less money could you maybe provide me with some links to them?

i have set my alert for speed at 70 mph... that way it flashes red and comes up on the screen yelling at me telling me to slow down... you could do the same, but when the plow comes off, you can change the alert a lot easier then reprogramming the pcm with a new speed limit..

It does have a speed limiter on it, but you are the first that I know of to want to lower it. I can only assume it will go that low. Most are raising the speed to 120-140 range. You might call Edge and make sure it will go that low.

The flashing alert sounds like a good idea. Set it for 35 mph?

Just for the sake of accuracy, I'd like to correct one thing. The Edge does NOT have a speed limiter in it. The PCM does. The stock setting on mine was 99 mph. The Edge allows you to adjust this speed limit that Ford thoughtfully provided to keep us safe from ourselves. So, think of the Edge as a "speed governor adjuster".

I have no idea if you can lower it to 40. If you can, the vehicle will simply stop accelerating at that point. The PCM either cuts the spark or the fuel or both. This is not the same as a speed alert, which flashes the gauge red and "clicks" at you till you slow down.

One thing to keep in mind. Exceeding the governor's speed limit DOES set a "code". I don't know if it is self-clearing or not.

what kind of "code" are you talking about?

A footprint of the change that was made. If necessary it is possible for a Ford tool to be used to read the truck's computer and it would show that the speed limiter was changed. I think that is what J&J is referring to.

I know the max the speed limiter can go is 200, but not sure of the minimum. Mine is set a 130 because I had it set at 120 and when I hit that wall, it was no fun. I might give it a try to see what it is later tonight.

Wow! this was an old thread! I think the code is actually set by "bumping up" against the speed limiter. I read about this somewhere and I can't remember where. I don't think the code has anything to do with the change.

Now, does the code effect anything? Possibly, it could cause you to fail an emissions check if you have to go through that drill. Otherwise, I imagine it "self-clears" after a few drive cycles.

I just know I DO NOT want "big brother" keeping my truck from accelerating when I need it to. So, the Edge/Gryphon is a tool to remove that restriction.
