Used Evolution?

Is there anything negative to buying a used Edge Evolution? I cant imagine so, but if anyone has run into any problems, or know of someone can you let me know?

Biggest thing is you want to make sure they have completely removed the programmer and programming itself from the truck. The Evolution will tie itself to a certain vehicle until you tell it to go back to stock. Only then can you transfer the Evolution to another truck.

Other than that, I'd get it and send it to PHP for a Gryphon upgrade and some custom tunes to truly take advantage of the programmer.

I found a used Gryphon in the classifieds here and have it in the truck now waiting on custom tunes.

^^^ what he said. Just make sure that the previous owners truck was returned to stock before he removed the unit. They seem to last a long time, and I agree on getting the custom tunes from PHP.

Just make sure it comes from the same body class as yours is. Its easier to get the hex code to build the custom tunes. You will need your trucks hex code before its sent to PHP. The body classes 97-03,04H,04-08.

The early 04-06 units may not work on the 07-08 trucks, especially if your truck is FFV. So the body classes may be 97-03,04H,04-06,04-08.

If the original owner did not reset their truck back to stock it will cost you $75 to have the unit reset, and if you get the wrong body class it will cost you $150 to have the card replaced. Also, like any used electronics there is no warranty, but Edge will test or repair the unit for $50.

early 04-06 units will just need an update (jordan from edge said it was a FREE update) from edge using the lghtning program (available on the edge site) to work properly on a 07-08, but your unit might have to be used with a XP computer and not vista. that is the only prob i have had. they even gave me the key to reset it after i screwed up the download. maybe others have paid but i didnt..

You can have the seller take a picture of the screen after he sets it back to stock. There should be a "0" in the upper right portion of the screen. If any other number is displayed, it hasn't been returned to stock and will not work with any other truck.
