got my phoenix chip today
ups just dropped off my phoenix chip with custom tunes from php. i have class in 20 mins or i would already be out at my truck installing it. i cant wait to see what my truck can do with this chip
it programs the pcm just like a gryphon would but it doesnt have the features of a programmer such as the pid displays, the ability to read and clear codes, or any of the other features the gryphone has.
the chip is switch on the fly though which makes it a lot easier to change tunes. with the truck running all you have to do is turn the switch. you dont have to turn the truck off or anything. it also has a "no start" tune that is really useful. when you park the truck and set it to this, if someone wants to break into the truck and steal it, it will not let the truck run.
i got the chip cuz the gryphon wouldnt work with my truck for some reason. it wouldnt program my truck.

i got it installed in about 10 mins. it was really easy to do. i took pictures of everything and will have a write up of the install later
cant really say about the tunes cuz i noticed something in the paper work that i didnt like so im not going to try them yet. i love the "no start" tune though. my truck sits in a parking lot about 10 min from my dorm and i only use it on the weekends so it gives me a good sense of security. i set it to the trans only tune and love the way it shifts now too

yeah i would. i tried calling but i got the message that it is your monthly phone closure. how can i get a hold of you?
i have no use for the other stuff the gryphon has like the Display. I'd never look at it, and i have a $1000 matco Scanner so clearing codes isn't an issue. What does the phoenix run for? if we add more to are set up. do we have to buy a new one or can it be reflashed? last Question. when i do my 4v swap. Maybe this Summer or Winter. Can it be programmed for that?

im not exactly sure but i believe that they can reburn the chips. they dont charge for the reburn but they do charge $50 for a custom file.
about the 4v swap? im thinking that the chip will work but you will need new tunes.
if groovy chick is still watching this thread she will probably chime in and give you the answers you need
bill got back to me today and everything is good with the chip. just a misprint in the paperwork.
im going to try out the tunes this weekend on a long drive. ill put about 300 miles on the truck going home so ill see what it can do and what kind of gas mileage im getting now

heres a pic of the chip installed in the pcm. the only part of it you dont see is the connection into the pcm.

if you follow the wire coming out, you can see the switch. its a simple switch that you turn to each position

Update on tunes
i love the chip. lets just say that i took it for a real good test drive
. me and two of my buddies got a little out of it two fridays ago and decided to go to florida at 4 in the morning . we ended up meeting another buddy in virginia beach and spent a couple of great days on the beach.
so after a 2000 miles test. i can honestly say that i love bills tunes. power is much better and the truck doesnt have to downshift anywhere near it used to. while driving with the cruise control on, i was so surprised at how easy it made it up larger hills that it would have to downshift on a hill half the size. the shifts are quicker when it shifts and it feels a lot better driving the truck. mileage is up about 2 mpg. i used to get around 15-16 and i steadily got 18-19 on the trip going at a steady 70-75 mph pace.
i felt so safe leaving the truck for a couple of hours and even over night with the no start tune. i have the switch hidden so just turn the dial, leave the truck, and i know no one trying to take the truck is going to know what is going on when they try to start it and it just dies on them.
anyone interested in custom tunes, but doesnt want to pay for a xcal or a gryphon should definately look into the phoenix chip from php
