Tuner problems

I'm thinking about adding a tuner but I am curious if anyone has had any trouble with them. My father works at a Ford dealership and says in the past people have fried their PCM's by putting chips and other mods.

So, I'd like to hear if any real problems and how many miles y'all have with the tuners. Also, what kind of power/MPG boosts I could expect?????

MPG/Power gains depends on the mods and octane you are tuned for/running

I have only heard of people frying PCMs when they buy those $25.99 rip off "chips" from ebay

I've been custom tuned for years now and no issues

People fry PCMs that don't have tuners. What caused that? Any part on a machine can fail, and if they have an aftermarket item assisting that will get blamed for the failure. If you added up all the miles of members on this site, driven with tuners, I bet the number would be astonishing. I myself have over 53,000 trouble free miles. Most of the people speaking against tuners have no idea what research and work goes into them and have no idea how safe they really are. When i say tuners, I mean the top quality tried and tested tuners, not the gimmicks on ebay.

Aw, tarajerame - you're way out of touch! Those PCM fryers are now going for $69.95! Better hurry - get yours before they're all gone!

In all seriousness, a tune from a reputable tuner like PHP, VMP or TP is not going to fry your PCM. If, after you install the tune, you try to drive your truck like a rail at every opportunity, then maybe you might have a transmission change in your near future.

PHP = powerhungryperformance.com
VPM = vmptuning.com
TP = troyerperformance.com

These are the three most popular companies that do custom tunes for our trucks. Check out their websites.

Kevin

ps I have Troyer custom tunes.

SAME HERE, Troyer X3. Just with the canned tune went from 9.9 mpg while towing 3200lb boat to about 11mpg. have not had a chance to compare hwy.
Unless someone can give me a different MPG because I did not set the options to 18" wheels and 3.73 gears. (stock was 235/75/R17 and 3.73, changes to 265/70/R18 3.73) what would be the exact mileage if my cals without compensating stated 10.2mpg.

I dunno, but I recently heard a programmer caused FX4Life's injector issue.

Seriously.

You heard wrong. Wish I knew how to post links to other threads, you really should read his thread on what happened to his truck. His injector issue was a result of ford changing vendors for those parts on the 2005 model 150s, apparently with defective injectors which has me kinda concerned! Someone correct me if I'm wrong about FX4lifes injector issues. Here's his thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...ing-ideas.html

I think he was just stirring up trouble. He tends to do that when he gets bored.
