Question Best bang for the buck?

Just want to know how much of a hassle these programmers are before I drop any money on one. Ive seen a few threads where some guys are having a problem with them. I dont know much about them, so if anyone can fill me in on how easy or hard they are to use would be great. I have a K&N intake and a aftermarket muffler on the truck now, its a 5.4 2005 fx4 with 33"s and it runs good with 31,000mi. Havent had any problems with the truck at all.
Would adding a programmer be a good choice as far as adding noticable power while keeping the truck reliable down the road?
Do these things come pre-tuned, and if not who tunes them, and for how much?
Also, is there any kind of maintenance that needs to be kept for them to continue working right?
Do they void the trucks warranty?
Once tuned and installed, do you just leave them alone?
How long do they work?
Do they cause any damage to the truck?
Which programmer will give the most bang for your buck?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to know if its worth the money.
Thanks for any input!

a custom tuned tuner will correct the damage you are doing with the CAI on your 3 valve

you are probably running lean since you have a 3 valve engine and an altered intake system, best to take it off until you get a custom tune to take care of it (a canned tuner will make it worse)
