Gryphon minus Dash Mount

Okay, so my 2009 F150 Platinum will be here in about 3 weeks. It will have the Sienna Brown interior in it, and I have been reading all the rave reviews of the Gryphon. Once it comes out, I would like to buy one for my rig.

But I have one question, can you use the gryphon without the dash mount for the pod? I don't really need to see the information it reads out, and I seriously doubt that it will match the interior of my truck. I was hoping I could take it out of the mount, and place it in the center console or in the little storage area in front of the gear selector.

So, is this doable? Thanks in advance! (just wanted to use that <-- haha)

Yes totally doable. You can install the tune and then remove the programmer altogether but you loose all of the sweet readouts it provides. Or you can hook it up and place it in/near the center console; I have seen a pic on here of that. Honestly, the dash pod looks great everyone who has seen mine things it is some sort of factory piece, that is if they notice it.

Thanks! Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the dash mounted pod, but the 'decor' of it doesn't really match the interior of my platinum. I didn't realize you could install the tune and then remove it all together.

Preferably, I would like to remove the pod from the mount, and place the pod in the center console, still connected to the truck so I can see what kind of gas mileage it says I should be getting. That's really the only readout I would be interested in. Also, being able to switch between custom tunes is a great feature.

But, if that's not doable, I could always install the tune I want, disconnect the programmer, and place it in the console.

You can definitely do that, Sport. However, if it's just that the pod won't match your interior, there are two things I can suggest:

1- Paint the pod. There are several people who have done this, and the results are awesome!

2- There is a company who makes a product for you to mount your Evo/Gryphon above your mirror. It looks pretty sharp. I can get this info if you're interested.

Really? I'd like to see that.

Those are all good options. This is the one time I'm glad that I will have to wait to buy a mod till after the truck is here, since the Gryphon isn't available for the 09 yet. But now, after looking at more pictures of the interior, I'm wondering if the pod will fit perfectly into the cubby directly opposite the trailer brake controller. You know, the one on the right side of the navigation console.

What do y'all think?
