Edge slowing me down

Hi Everyone

I have a 2004 5.4l f150. It has a K&N CAI i recently bought an edge evolution. I was trying out the 0-60 test and i noticed that when i have the edge on lvl 2 i am slower the stock by more then 1.5 seconds. I am not sure whats going on. I have changed the gearing cause it was set for 3.73 an i have 3.55s Is thier anything else i should change?

Thanks

That is not normal. I would be very careful with a CAI on a 2004. You need custom tunes to keep from running lean. The Edge is tuned for a stock intake.

Yes, but it's very torquey. I would think the 0-60 time would be improved, not worse. Level 2 drops off quickly over 2000 rpms.

Get a custom tune from www.powerhungryperformance.com. They can convert your Edge to the Gryphon and write a tune for your truck. In reality, you are not taking full advantage of the CAI without a custom tune to adjust for the available air.

If it were mine, I would put the stock intake back on and convert to the Gryphon, then put the CAI back on.

I never checked my times. I don't race it, just drive it pretty good.

I have a friend who's 2004 F150 burned up a valve while running the Edge and a S&B cai.

Back in late 2004, Troyer did dynos on some stock 2004s and said they were in a near lean condition from the factory. So any additional air could be a problem for them.

They could throw a code if it's severe enough, some on here have. Or it's possible that you will hear a pinging if it's severe enough, but my understanding is that it can be kind of like high blood pressure. A silent killer that can be there and slowly destroy your cylinders, pistons and valves. Yours could be fine, but if it were mine, I would not take a chance with a CAI and no tunes. Just not enough reward to warrant the risk. I have an early 2005 and I just never wanted to risk it. I eventually got custom tunes and just never parted with the cash to get a CAI. I recently did the self mod to the stock intake and it seems to be doing great.
