Bill/Corey - EDGE No Go After Reflash!!

Bill and Corey,

Well, I hope my misfortune is good for your business!! I just got my truck back from the dealer and they reflashed my PCM (coulda used one of those OBDII covers!!). Needless to say that my never-updated-EDGE does not like like the new PCM code! Anyway I downloaded the most recent firmware version from their site (dated late 2007), but I still get the "calibrations not supported" when I try to set a parameter.

Since I wanted to upgrade to a Gryphon anyway, can you make my EDGE/Gryphon usable again via your upgrade plan? I have an "older" EEF2400 EVOII, vE3-20-23.

If so, then I will start the process and get this thing out to you ASAP! I don't need a custom calibration quite yet, but we can talk more offline.

Thanks for any info and I am so looking forward to doing business with you!!

go to their forum. They have an emergency section for just this occasion.

Much better luck ! Sorry I can't help you more.

Can also try Bills number. I don't feel comfortable posting it here, since its his personal contact info. But on his website its listed. Call him for any emergency issue you may have. Can't say enough great things about him. He has walked me through a couple issues already.

Yes you could of, but it shouldn't matter unless a new TSB comes out as new flashes are highly unlikely.

Interesting, StoveTop - Since I also drive a 2005, do you know what the reflash was for?

And, I'm guessing that you did NOT return the vehicle to stock before you took it in? I ask this because it's my understanding that the Edge should be happy with the reflash in this case, not because I'm trying to throw darts. Or, is the problem due to the fact that the Edge firmware had never been updated?

Regardless, Bill should be able to fix you up, so get in touch with him.

I answered an e-mail this morning that sounds quite familiar to your situation, so it was probably you. If not, give us a shout, and we'll see what we can do for ya!

EVERY time the dealer sees my truck, I reinstall the stock aircleaner, return stock tune to PCM and EDGE removed. I don't like giving them any reason to hassle me. During the roadtest to chase down a rattle, I let it slip during normal conversation that the truck always seemed a little sluggish.
When I picked it up, I saw on the invoice a no-charge for the PCM reflash. When I asked about it, the service rider (real great guy), thought he was doing me favor and said it should help with driveability since it was the most updated calibration. Uh, ok....

When I got home, I reinstalled the EDGE but when it failed to set a parameter, I downloaded the most current cal/firmware. This is when I got the same "calibration not supported yet" error message. I tried several more on the EDGE site, but still get the same error.

Last note: To be honest, the truck drives better than it ever had (prior to the EDGE) and if I had never experienced an EDGE before, I would be quite happy with the reflash! So it's on there now with no tuning as I like looking at the PIDs.

Corey, I will be in touch...

MT, thanks for the info. I should have been clearer by stating that my truck starts and runs great...it's the EDGE that needs tweaking! I will keep this in mind however if I do get into an emergency situation!

Thanks for explaining, StoveTop. My guess is then, that the firmware in your Edge simply doesn't know how to deal with the new HEX code. It's odd that updating the firmware did not help though. This particular flash can't be all THAT new, I'd think.

Have you talked to anyone at Edge tech support about this? Lately, people seem to be having good luck with them. Regardless, if updating the firmware didn't work, I imagine they'd like to know about it. I know I would if I was making and selling programmers.

Update...

Although I want to upgrade to the Gryphon, I decided to contact EDGE as well to see what they can do. They confirmed that my "older" EDGE simply does not support the newest calibrations from Ford. My manufacture date is 12/20/2006. In response, they are going to swap it out for a newer version! So I am packing it up with cable and they will send a replacement! This is more than I expected and I am surprised and happy with their service!

I guess I should reserve judgement until I receive the new EDGE and install it, but for now all is good.

That's impressive! I would not expect a company to do that for a unit that is that old. I'd hope for perhaps a reduced price on a new unit, but a free swap? Wow!

You'll still be able to upgrade it to a Gryphon though, and the cost will be minimal.

Sounds like Edge wants to keep a customer very happy. I agree with Jack & Janet that them doing this is impressive. I had to re-read your post just to make sure I was reading it right.

And your smile will be 10x bigger !

But I agree, good to see Edge step up to the plate. I thought the bigger corp's were done with customer service. Glad some still believe in it.
