Gryphon? Opinions From Those Who Switched From VMP or Troyer
Gryphon? Opinions From Those Who Switched From VMP or Troyer
I guess I was spoiled with my Troyer tunes on my 2007 F-150, because I thought I'd get the same results with my 2008 and am a bit disappointed.
I ran VMP while I waited for Troyer, and it seems the torque management Ford has really plays with the torque converter way too much for daily driving. Justin was nice enough to rewrite my tunes about three times, but the shifting is weird and the torque converter is still too touchy. I tried to data log for Justin, but couldn't get it to work, so I never had the chance to go any farther.
Troyer tunes (I have six) seem to perform okay, but this truck is a dog compared to my 2007. I think the 20" wheels are the culprit because the rest is the same as my 2007. I run a 93 octane performance tune, but the performance is, well, okay, but not stellar. It is better to drive than stock, and moves better, but nothing like my 2007. There are absolutely no issues with the torque converter unlocking with minor touches of the go pedal, but i can't help wondering if the Gryphon would mean "that" much difference.
Are there any of you that have first-hand experience with all three? What are your thoughts and experiences? I'd like the console mount the Gryphon has, although I have a ScanGuageII. My Xcal2 is almost out of "uses" because I have used it on several trucks, so it won't be long before I have to pay to unlock it for the next truck. I assume I could use the Gryphon on a 2009 sometime down the road, right? Hmmmm. You say you're at 485 and counting Groovy?

My 2008 torque coverter stays locked almost to much.At light throdle up a hill it will shift into od about 40 mph and almost bog the motor but only with very light throdle. Under normal driving it shifts very solid i know the power is getting to the wheels. What gears do you have?
