Edge tire size/gear ratio

Hello , i have a 2000 F-150 with a edge programmer , i went and changed the tiresize/ gear ratio , now once it is loaded , shouldn't i be able to see the changes the next time i go through the menu . I went back through the menu and the parameters were back to where they were before i made the change . instead of me seeing 4.56 on the gear i see 3.73 , so did the program take or is this normal.
2nd question , what are you refering to " canned tunes "
thanks in advance
Stuart

You WILL see the changed TS and GR if (and only if) you go to the "Load Previous Settings" option first when you use the Custom Options Menu. The problem is that any changes to the tunes in the Edge causes it to work with the Calibration section of the PCM which simply has "placeholder" values instead of using the VID section (which contains the factory values).

It's all kind of weird. To do things right, you should: select a tune and skip the custom options step. Let the PCM program. Then, if you want to adjust anythng, reselect the tune you want, go into the Custom Options menu and Load Previous Settings - Then customize any of the options you'd like. If you want to verify that these things took (after reprogramming the PCM), go back a third time, select the tune, go to Custom Options, and again - Load Previous Settings first.

Don't be too surprised if your tire size changes just a few mm. This has something to do with the way the Edge "rounds" this value internally.

And, if I got any of this wrong, it's due to my faulty understanding of Bill Cohron's explanation of "How Things Work".

The Edge comes with three "canned tunes": Shift Firmness, 87 Tow and 91 Performance. These improve the performance of f150s over the "do everything" tune Ford puts into the PCM but they are still sort of "generic". They were written for stock f150s and for "predicted" usage patterns. If you use 89 octane or 93 octane fuel, you'd really want a different calibration. And, if you routinely operated at say 10,000 feet, in the mountains, or towed something other than what Edge thinks you're towing, you'd want a different calibration. And finally if you modify your truck with say, a CAI, you'd definitely want a different calibration.

Stuart, I hope I haven't confused things too badly!

- Jack

To really take advantage of the CAI, you need Bill's custom tunes. The Edge is programmed assuming stock intake.
