Just what does the EDGE tune???

Hi all.... im just wondering about the EDGE programming..... im running 35" tires, and when i check my odometer reading on the truck, it is VERY close to my handheld GPS unit..... but of course the trucks speedometer is off by about 2-3 MPH..... so, my question is: Just what does the EDGE program? how would the trucks odometer be accurate with larger tires, and have the speedometer off? i know that the EDGE can display an accurate MPH reading, but im wondering whether or not it has capabilities of programming the PCM's readouts on the dash. Thanks for your help.

It's just a fact of life taht Ford sets the speedometer and odemeter 2 to 3 mph fast. If you get your speed accurate, which the Edge display will be accurate, then the dash unit will be fast.

I'm not sure the last part of your question was answered, but the answer is YES. When the Edge programs the PCM, it has the capability to change any of the PCM's outputs or the way it "translates" its inputs from the various sensors.

Unlike older vehicles, the dashboard gauges get ALL their input directly from the PCM. There are no mechanical connections for the speedometer and odometer. And, you actually want the truck's dashboard speedo to read about 2mph fast (in the 70mph range) to have the odometer accurate. (I've found my speedo is about 1mph fast in the 35mph range).

Thanks for the replies guys.... i didnt know that the stock speedos are fast compared to a GPS reading..... interesting. but, im glad to know that the trucks displays are correct, based on my custom inputs... now i can accurately measure my MPG's.

Thanks.

Go into TEST mode on the IC.

Hold down the trip button when you turn on the truck, and let go when it says TEST/SWEEP GAUGES.

From there scroll through to the MPH. That will be the true digital signal the PCM is reading, unlike the ~analog.

Good point. Never thought about checking that.

I still think occasionally. I try to save it up for important subjects so I don't use up what I have left.
