Questions before I buy a programmer??

2006 5.4l FX4
Ok I know I could possibly find these but I dont wanna search for an hour. I am wanting something for more power in low gears but will run on 87oct. So here's a few questions.
-What is the difference in Edge Evo and Gryphon?
-What do I need for more "passing power"
(what I mean is my truck is sluggish in low gears)
-What are custom tunes? Canned tunes?

All I have is dual exhaust, stock back to a Silverline muffler then dual out the back...
-Do I need a CAI system?

Basically like I said my truck is sluggish in low gears and while cruising if I wanna pass it feels really sluggish trying to down shiff. I dont tow much and when I do its only a 6x12 utility trailer with a fourwheeler or lawnmower. What would yall suggest for what I explained? Oh yeah I would like to gain MPG's also but do not wanna run high octane gas. Thanks for any input!!

The Edge and the Gryphon are the same hardware, sold by different companies. They both come with the same canned programs. Canned programs are kind of "one size fits all" so obviously, they may not fit exactly what your setr up may be. They will deliver what you seem to be seeking. About 25 additional HP and much better shifting. However, the Gryphon comes with the option of custom tunes. These are written specifically for your truck and specifically for what you wish to accomplish. Get the Gryphon, tell Bill what you want and you will be a happy driver. I have had both and I love the 87 Performance tune and the 93 Performance tune from PHP.

As stated before, the Edge and Gryphon have the same canned tunes and hardware. The gryphon is sold by Bill and Corey at Powerhungryperformance. The gryphon programmer can be custom tuned for your specific needs and for whatever octane you may want to run.

You probably would be interested in their 87 tow tune and 87 performance tune.

I assume that you want gauges? If not you have some other options for tuners as well.
For example my truck is tuned using the Sniper tuning software and so far I love it.
Justin at VMP tuning also does custom tunes for your truck and his work is on par with any of the others.

Superchips also make a nice tuner, but you are limited to just canned tunes or a "One size fits all" type of tuning.

All the tuners listed above are wonderful to work with, you will not be disappointed with any of them.

Best of luck

It sounds to me like you really want an 87 octane "Performance" tune. Bill can do that for you if you go with the Gryphon. The "Tow" tune is really set for low end grunt when pulling heavy loads. Your towing needs don't really sound like towing needs at all, just accelerating with a heavier vehicle.

Bill's tunes will definitely cure the "down shift sluggishness" (actually, the canned tunes do this too), but he can optimize the power curve for your overall driving needs. Just give him a call - he's super easy to talk to and he won't try to sell you anything you don't want.

Thanks yall! I went to the PHP website after I posted. These folks sound like the type of people I want to deal with. Customer service sounds top notch and thats hard to come by now days. I will give Bill a call soon as I get the time and money. Again thanks for the comments, the 87 performance sound exactly like my needs.

tuners

I have an 06 f-150 lifted with 35inch tires. I started with the exhaust, intake and throttle body spacer all gave noticeable power gains. The tuner I went with is the one from superchips. The options are endless shift firmness, raised speed limiter, recalibrates speedometer for bigger tires. The power increase was around 40 additional horsepower. Get one of those and set program to superchips value and pass a car and tell me what you think!. Costs $320

a custom tune will almost always out perform a canned tune..

I'm suprised you didn't get a million horsepower from that throttle body spacer
