Hypertech PP3 unlock
Hypertech PP3 unlock
I picked up a Hypertech PP3 off e-bay for $18 knowing that it may be locked (only looking for something to change my tire size, axle ratio, etc., not max performance). The seller openly admitted that he could not ensure that it was unlocked and listed it as a parts only/no returns auction and I figured that it was worth possibly taking it on the chin for $20 or less just in case it was unlocked and would work. Well it turns out that it is locked.
Is there any way that I can unlock it? I've heard something about dipping it in soda or something like that?
I don't want to bother contacting Hypertech b/c I've heard that IF they do reprogram it for you it costs almost the same as buying a new one. As for the local dealerships, I've spoke to the two closest to me and both said that IF they could it would cost over $100.
So I'm looking for any unconventional method that will work b/c I already know that I cannot return the PP3 so it doesn't matter if something happens to it. Thanks.

Yeah it sounded pretty unusual to me as well. All I know is that I'll try anything that might work because I am stuck with the programmer regardless so it doesn't matter if something happens because it's useless as it is now anyways.
Basically, you took it on the chin for $20.00. Lesson learned. It's gonna cost you to unlock it.
As for dipping in soda... that's a new one for me. Maybe if you dip it in soda (causing it to short out all over the place) and send it back to Hypertech will replace it under warranty. I think that's whet they might be getting at.
Take care.
