'04 SuperCrew 5.4, Edge or Gryphon?

I'm new to the F150 community (Pickup up mine on Friday), but from the research I've done so far I see both are pretty much the same(Gryphon uses the Edge Evolution if I am understanding correctly), but I'd like to see what a better fit for me is so please let me know the Pro's vs. Con's of each.

Here's my truck:
'04 SuperCrew FX4 5.4

What I am looking for is a little more power while keeping the 87 octane rating so I can keep my fuel costs down. The only other mod I plan on doing is a S&B intake. Down the road I may add an exhaust, but that will be the extent of my mods. Plus can't I just add a custom tune to the Edge Evolution if necessary?

I can get a much better deal on the Edge Evolution itself so I'd like to go that way, but everyone says that since I have an intake I should be doing the Gryphon. I don't plan on every dynoing the truck and I'm not using it for racing or anything like that; I just want to help out mileage a little bit and add some power for better acceleration/towing when necessary. Thanks for the help!

you cant get a custom tune on the Edge unless you send it in to PHP and they convert it to a gryphon.

just go with the gryphon to begin with, the price is only $399 now +$30 for a custom tune down the line

I had the Edge for 30,000 miles and loved it. Converted it to the Gryphon and it is much better. Same hardware, but you need Bill's custom tunes which are available only with the Gryphon.

The Edge canned tunes are an 87 shift only, an 87 towing and a 91 performance. They are for a stock intake only. You need a custom tune to take advantage of the CAI and to make sure you do not run lean.

My recommendation would be an 87 Performance tune. I run mine most of the time. I also have a 93 performance tune and occasionally run it. The shifting and downshifting in Bills custom tunes with the Gryphon are far superior to the Edge canned tunes.

Go with the gryphon call Bill (corey's sick) and order it, it will come with 3 canned tunes for your truck, but you can order custom tunes and they are worth every penny, also the gryphon has a stealth black case and just looks more factory than the evo.
Once you go Gryphon, you never go back!

You will love it! It made my truck so much fun to drive, I never want to return to stock tune. I do so, everytime I take it to the dealer for any real service, just as a precaution. You do not want them messing with the PCM while you have a tune in it. Driving it to the dealer, it's a dog. I reprogram it before I leave their parking lot.

Quick question; I have the opportunity to pickup an Edge Evolution locally for under $200 since a guy is turning his truck in on lease so here's my question: Can I purchase this Edge and send it to Bill to be converted to "Gryphon" status? If so how much does that run? Thanks!

That might be worth it if you trust who you are getting the edge from. PHP only charges $25 dollars to switch it to a Gryphon plus the cost for the tunes. it could save you a bit of $$.

I think PHP has restructured their prices and I believe they said they were on their website. Check it out and if they aren't then give them a call and discuss what you want. Buying the used may no longer save much if any, but, I have not looked.
