If you were to go that route, get the cheaper one. From what I read when I had a ranger, there were the same exact thing, the tunes are the same, but the casing might be updated and possibly new firmware.

I just talked with Justin at VMP and he told me that the only real difference is if you have an 07 or newer you should go with the xcal 3... otherwise the xcal 2 is just fine.. pretty much same thing, just x3 has new firmware for 07 and newer.... He may chime in here and give you a better answer..

-- By the way I just puchased the xcal 2 for my 05 from VMP

That was my impression, too. 07+ use X3, otherwise X2 is fine.

By saying you just talked to Justin, do you mean right before you posted and was it phone or email? I have a problem with my tunes and I have not been able to get a return email or phone call from VMP in almost 2 weeks. I was just curious because if you just heard from them, then maybe they are not getting my messages. I am going to try another email this week.

Maybe one of the custom tuners here can give the specifics on the storage requirements for the tune files and the new 6 speed transmissions but I would get an XCAL3 - the 09's have a 6 speed trans, and based on a recent experience. I had another XCAL2 and recently custom tuned an 08 Ford Edge. The tune files would not load on the XCAL2 so I had to get an XCAL3.

I have an Xcal2 and according to the SCT web site, there is a new version of their software needed for 2007+ Automatics. (v1.15) I upgraded mine over the weekend, so I hope there are not any other issues with it for a 2007.
