Need a Tune, couple questions

I have read all over the forums everyone either likes vmp or the tuned edge evo.

how have your trucks been with the mail order tunes, i for one am NOT for mail order tunes, any problem?

I guess im just a true beliver in get it on the dyno dial the a/f in properly with sct software.

Reason for needing the tune is 37's and a speedo recal is in order, as well as an intake / exhaust in the near future..

I have about 35,000 miles on mine with an Edge. Ran the canned tunes for about 25,000 of that and for the last 10,000, have had the custom mail order tunes from PHP. I could not be happier.

I have a VMP Tuned XCal3 and I'm extremely pleased with it. The thing to remember about these 'mail order' tunes is that they're coming from guys that have dyno'd very similar vehicles, down to the modifications and everything. So in a sense, these mail order tunes are derived from dyno tuning with tried and true methods, and a hell of a lot cheaper, too.

If you really want to then go take it to a dyno to squeeze out an extra 3 horsepower or whatever.

They do test the tunes, its not a guess and ship it out game with them. So its not a real mail order tune, its just shipped that way

yea at least people are having good results its just that truthfully every truck is different and the more mods you have the more inaccurate the "custom" tunes get, is it really worth 570ish for a php, over a vmp xcal? or vise versa.

With the PHP, you get the monitor. It's totally different hardware. That is the extra cost. If you have no interest in the gauges, then no, it's probably not worth the extra.

thanks for the heads up!, i do like the interface of the edge, but i have knowledge of sct software, enough to tune my truck, and my tuner is opening a new shop so im thinking i mite be able to get her on the dyno sooner then i thought, i might go livewire hmm...although i like the look of the php decisions decisions lol...

php seems good for bolt on guys
sct better for F/I

sort of like a diablo predator is good for mustangs (had one) small bolt ons
i sold the diablo went sct, when i built my motor, blower, lots of boost.

really im just looking to clean up the mushy shifts, would the php do this decently..if it will its prolly worth it for me saving me a trip to the dyno, i just dont want to make the wrong purchase.

Even the canned tunes in the Gryphon firms up the shifts, plus you can adjust them as firm as you want. Bill will make them as firm as you want in the custom tunes. One of the best improvements that Bill's custom tunes make over the canned, is thhe downshifting. I had trouuble in traffic with downshifts. Bill's tunes have my truck where it will downshift at any speed.
