Im tottaly lost

So Im lookin to gain some horsepower and save some gas. I hear all these chips and exhaust and intake stories. I have a 4.2 v6, ive looked around and i cant find anything for a v6. all the chips and tuners are all 4.6 and up. Will they work for my truck or am i out of luck. Plus i want to get a body lift so i can get some bigger tires. i have 33's and i had to cut my front bumper to fit these tires. I wanna make sure ill have plenty of power to push some bigger tires and also fit with the whole front bumper assembly. and also go thru some mud. =)

any help would be greatly appreciated

Xcal3 with custom tunes from a place like VMP Tuning. I don't know whats out there intakes wise but Justin from VMP would probably be able to point you in the right direction.

I'd highly recommend getting some gears because you'll need it.

You should seriously consider electric fans and an underdrive pulley to reduce parasitic drag. Then re-gear to bring that power to your wheels. Do that first. Then a cold air intake & aftermarket exhaust will round off your new custom engine tuning. Justin Starkey has some pretty good stuff. So does Mike Troyer. Between the two of them, you should be able to get everything you need under the hood. I'm not sure if Power Hungry Performance carries performance parts yet. But it couldn't hurt to give all of them calls and pick their brains as to which combination of mods you should go with. Also, I would also consider a suspension lift for tire clearance.

well you can check out the mods I have in my sig and I have noticed power gains and major mpg gains over stock. I'm not planning on lifting or bigger tires though. Got most of my stuff from Troyer. Those are my stock HP/TQ numbers.

would it still be worth it to mess with the gears if its an everyday driver?

I got a 2001 4.2L V6, and my mods are listed in my sig. I have noticed a decent amount of power, but don't know true numbers yet, as I am getting another dyno run this spring. I have custom tunes from Justin @ VMP, they are 87 mileage, 87 performance, and 89 performance. I have noticed about 1-2+ MPG on the highway, but haven't had a true test of it yet. E-fans and UD pulleies are als a good investment! I plan on getting some soon.

heres my suggestion for you.
are you 2 or 4wd?
re-gear if your going to bigger tires.
do intake and exhaust
then tune (so tuner can write you a tune including the intake and exhaust)
underdrive pulley's and e-fans later down the road.

what 06yz250f said!

That is the exact order im going in....minus the bigger tires and gears....and e-fans wil come before UD pullies

my truck is 2x4. its my every day driver too so im not really tryin to go all out offroad. the tires i have on my truck now are too big, my bumper wont fit on when its whole(my bottom vinyl is gone, plus i had to cut a couple inches off each end of the actual bumper). i atleast want to got a couple more sizes up. i have 265/75/r16's at the moment. so i need a body lift or suspension. and i want to get some more power for times when i do go offroad or go to pull something.
