Question Thinking of getting rid of my Edge

I just had some work done on my truck, new manifold because a bolt broke off and the manifold warped???????
On my last camping trip I used the edge on level 2 going out and stock when coming back that there was hardly any difference. The MPG's are the same, I did notice that the shifting was a little better but very little.
So this makes me wonder if its really worth it for towing? The gauges are nice to have and that's about it.
I did notice however that the level 3 tune does make the truck get up and go a lot faster but I really dont have a need to be whipping around in a huge truck.
So the question is do I keep it or get rid of it?

If you don't get more out of it than that, then get rid of it. I have had mine over three years and I will never be without one, it makes a huge difference on my truck. The extra 25 or so HP, the firmer shifts and the improved downshifting make my stock tune worthless. Plus, I need it to recalibrate the speedo and I love the gauges.

That's exactly what I did! A custom tune for YOUR needs is much better than the "canned" Edge tune.

How much power difference did you notice from the stock edge tunes to the P.H.P. tunes?? I currently have and Edge with a K&N 57 CAI, pulleys, and magnaflow catback single out system and didn't know if that would fall into the "custom tune" category for them.

For $75 that doesn't seem like that bad a deal.

Thanks!

Andy

It wasn't so much a power increase that I noticed, it was that the truck just seemed better all across the envelope when towing. I DO know that on my 2400 mile trip towing the trailer into the mountains of Colorado that I averaged 0.71mpg better than my previous BEST mileage (on fairly flat ground) using the canned tow tune.

The canned tow tune was really not set up for my towing needs. My 3600# low-profile trailer does not fall into the "one-size fits all category that Edge uses (probably a 6000# trailer) to set up their canned tune. I know it feels like I have better "pull" now in the higher speed ranges. I wanted something that would let me pass slower drivers easier while towing and this tune does.

Andy, I highly recommend you talk to Bill about what he can do for YOUR setup and needs.

I have what might be the more typical travel trailer size/weight. It is 6,000 when fully loaded.

Our Rocky mountain vacation last year was 3,500 miles and netted an overall average mpg of 10.5.

Our northern CA vacation this year (with Edge Evo and the tow program) was 2,300 miles and netted an overall mpg of 11.0. Several days we were well into the 12+ mpg range and one day we were at 13+.

I think I got an increase of 0.5 due to the Edge.

Now some will say that the truck didn't work as hard in CA as it did in the Rockies. I will dispute that. We took Hwy 120 east into Yosemite and that is a CLIMB and a half. Trans temp got up to 220 for a brief time... which I did not like but it went right back down when we leveled off. Lots of up and down in northern CA. We also went through Lassen Volcanic National Park (highly recommend as it is a beautiful Park) and that got us WAY up there.

I do have a better sense of what wind does to mpg when towing a 6,000 brick through the air... and the Edge can't do much with that. Any head wind and our mpg dropped to 9. Just about any wind hitting the front quarters (that is anything coming at you from about 10 o'clock position to 2 o'clock position) will cut mpg down in a real hurry. They try to make these things aerodynamic but there is only so much that they can do.

I highly recommend you get custom tuning with any programmer. Data log tuning is as close as a dyno tune as you can get without a dyno. Thats where you will get the most for your money. Like its said, Custom tuning through PHP would be alot better then a Canned tune. Justin and Troyer will do a great job too!

You really are not making a lot of sense. You want to trade a tuner for something that will benefit you a fraction of what a tuner will, and in addition, it may cause your truck to run lean without custom tunes? A CAI gives the best increase when combined with custom tunes.

K first off....I have the Edge sitting in my garage gathering dust, I personally dont like the Edge except for the gauges. I dont like the tow tune, I find it doesn't make that much of a difference towing my 27' TT on long hauls , especially in the mountains, the MPG's are the same. I dont use the performance tune because spending $1.50 a liter for 91 octane and only getting an extra 1 MPG (if I'm lucky) isnt really worth it in the long run.
The edge is nothing but a pain in the *** where I'm from in the winter when the temps drop below -30C (-22F). Another reason I want to get rid of it is because I am planning on buying a new 2008 F350. I only want a CAI to help with resale/trade in value and thought that someone on here would like to get a good deal, I could of put it on eBay and sold it for pretty well the same price I paid for it, stupid of me thinking of helping out a fellow F150 driver who's seeking a can tuner for a good deal. You can bash me all you want but I'm sure the person who gets it wont be complaining, guess it just sucks to be you because you had to pay full price for yours.
Oh...one other thing...If I was planning on keeping my truck I would of sent it in to PHP for a gyphron with custom tune, but I'm not.
