Id wait to install the AF1 you will prolly get the most out of it with the custom tunes. And why risk the lean issue. Just use the Xcal3 canned tunes to mess with till you Troyer ones show up..

Sounds good. Hopefully nothing happens while running that intake without a tune. The 2004 F150s are VERY sensitive to air intake changes. A lot of 2004s were running lean from the factory and the addition of an air intake pushed them over the age. It's your truck though ...

Like I said, I'm reconsidering the install. I'll more than likely just wait. The risk/benefit logic that I mentioned in a earlier post seems to be a good line of though. Perhaps I lucked out having a faulty tube? Other wise, it would be in the truck right now.

I do appreciate the input/concern though. I'll continue to post progress...

A call from Anita.

8/21/08
I spoke with Anita Troyer today for about 15 minutes. She told me about the extensive R&D that they have done specifically with the 3" AF1. In summary, she said that the 3" AF1 took a long time to develop because the folks at Air Force One Performance were striving to put out a product that performed well AND was safe to use WITH OUT a custom tune. The 3.5" is another story. Ultimately, she did not tell me what to do either way. She wasn't going to guarantee that I would not have a problem, but she did say that they have yet to have a problem with the 3" on all the trucks that they have tested. (That testing is both on the dyno and on the road) Personally, that gives me some peace of mind about my investment. Others can take it how they please.

The others are cautious because many trucks have run lean with CAI. Much like yourself I spoke with the Troyer crew about the 3" AF1 on my stock truck and felt good enough that I have been using it now for atleast 4 months without a tune. I dont plan on getting it tuned for atleast another couple of months. Runs great, sounds great and has upper the power.

Did Anita mention that the 2004 F150s ran extremely lean from the factory? If not, than that shows you the difference between Anita and Mike ...

Yeah, one is a woman and the other is a man. WTF does this have to do with anything? Clearly Anita explained everything to him and let him make the choice. How many 04's have you tested for a lean condition???? Where are you getting your data from?

I think sometimes you just like to read your own posts.

Do a search, you can find Mike Troyer, clearly explaining that the 2004s are very sensitive to lean conditions. I guess he could be wrong ...

I guess you don't want to answer my question. Yes, SOME 04's had a lean condition but what percentage. Anita told him that they have done EXTENSIVE R&D and have not had a lean condition. What is the difference between Mike and Anita? I have spoken to both, have you?

TP is the one who has done all of this extensive testing, correct? I've spoken to both. Anita is the reason why I didn't go with TP in 2005 on my 2004 F150. However, when I did talk to Mike he told me that the 2004's were very touchy and a lot of them risked running lean with no tune to compensate for the intake. I didn't ask him what the percentage was ... I wish I would of because I'm sure he had that information on a spreadsheet waiting for me to ask it. So that's conflicting answers and that's the difference between Anita and Mike.

I guess you have the answers to everything. I will always pick Troyer over anybody else. Troyer has been more than helpful to me and has earned my business.

Just install the intake ! You'll never know if your running lean, with or without the intake, with or without the tune, if your not going to dyno it or without measuring your air/fuel ratio. Put it on, go out and enjoy driving your truck !!!

I put the TP stage 2 kit on my 01. It's great! I increased my mileage by about 2.5 (running the 90 oct perf tune) over stock, with MUCH better power and driveability. You can look in my gallery for some issues with the wiring on the AF1 (It may be different on the 04) and the spacer I used between the exhaust and spare. Also the inside of the factory Y pipe (I cut it out and welded in a new one). Hopefully the 04's have a better transition in the Y than mine did. It's a really great kit and makes 'em drive like they should.

Mike just recently told me that my 2005 computer code ran about 12:1. Sounds pretty rich to me.
