Unhappy sct x3 tuner

Can anyone tell me if this is a good programmer SCT X3?? I had a hypertech and sent it back. Now I can't decide between this one or a superchip. Ive heard the superchip is just like the hypertech.

Mine has been great. It can hold 3 canned tunes, plus 3 custom tunes. Very easy to use also.

Yes, the Xcal3 is a great tuner, as is the Xcal2.

Superchips is a step up from Hypertech, IMO. They are both designed with a stock truck in mind. A custom tuned programmer is designed for what mods YOU have done to YOUR truck. So if you don't plan on modding very much, Superchips will do you fine. If you are looking for the best performance gains go for a custom tuned programmer. I have a SC but as soon as money allows, I will be getting a custom tuned programmer.

I've got an SCT X3 Power Flash. I'm happy with it. I would endorse it.

I don't believe buying a Xcal3 specifically for it's tunes (canned tunes from SCT themselves) is a great idea. There seems to be alot of problems people have reported with them and I'm one of them. But it is capable of holding 3 additional custom tunes that can be bought from a tuner. But the hidden gem in this unit seems to be its datalogging capability. I haven't worked with others before, but I'm really surprised at how much diagnostics I can do on my truck with the Xcal3 and a laptop. The livewire software from SCT is not the greatest Windows type program I've ever used, but when you start looking through all the different sensors and waveforms you can monitor on the screen, you start to realize how much you can repair yourself on these trucks.

Who is tuning it for you? The canned tunes are for a completely stock truck.

Yep great tuner. The only thing i will say is be careful up dating it. It can do some weird stuff to the X3. I had issues with mine after i updated it and had to get SCT involved to fix the problem. Its working fine now but i will be damned if im going to up date it ever again.

I have an '03 F150 FX4 with the only main mods being 33" tires and a drop in K&N air filter. I've been reading a lot on here about the different products and custom tunes and have decided on the XCal3, but I can't decide on which tunes to get. There's a lot of talk about Troyer and VMP. Originally, I was going to go with Troyer, but recently, a lot of people have been talking about the problems with his tunes and the lack of low rpm range power you get. It also seems to take forever to get your tuner once it's ordered and they cost a little more (not a significant amount though). He recommends the AF1 CAI, which can be packaged together, but I hear about a lot of people complaining about droning.

Looking at VMP's website, it seems as though he mainly works on Mustangs and I can't find any package deals (CAI and tuner) for the F150's. But a lot of people seem to be pleased with his tunes.

The reason I'm looking at getting one is b/c my truck feels a little sluggish and I hope to get a little bit better mpg's. I'm not necessarily looking at getting a CAI, but it will be worth entertaining the idea if I can get a good deal on it. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

I have the SCT X-Cal-3, I can't seem to get mine to hold the settings I put in, and the only custom program I have tried came to me corrupted and wouldn't work, so I'm a bit leery of it now, I may sell it and go with something more user friendly !
