Instead of worrying about weights just always use the tow tune when towing. I know that when I ordered my tunes from Troyer's Anita told me if I tow anything to always use the tow tune just to be on the safe side.

Personally I'd rather trust the person who wrote the tune than someone just works under them but that's your call ....

Like I said, I have a 4500 pound holiday trailer over a few rolling hills. The truck was shifting from 2500 to 4000 RPM. There was no in between. The stock program has intermediate RPM's it uses mainly one at about 3100 RPM which makes pulling much smoother. But even at 2500 RPM it seemed to be lugging terrible. I returned back to stock on the side of the highway and everything was fine again. Since then I've received my TP tunes but have not tried pulling with it yet.

So would I. This is a quote from Mikes PDF instructions I got with my tunes:
"Program 2 - 87 Octane (minimum) Performance - NO TOWING! This program..."

Mike's instructions told me not too on his tune. Maybe the reason Justin perf tune pulled so terrible is the same reason why Mike suggested NOT to pull with his. I just wish Justin would have told me this when I mentioned that I might want to tow with it in my e-mail to him. It makes me nervous programming my truck on the side of the highway away from the city.

That's weird. Mike and Justin both have posted here on the forum that it's okay to tow on their performance tunes, just don't exceed certain weights. I have also used Justin's performance tune on my truck with 37" tall tires and pulling 3,500 lbs and didn't have a problem. I don't know what else to tell you ...

Maybe his driving style is the problem and not the tunes while towing. Everybody drives different while towing. Some people drive slower & some expect the same performance out of their truck as if they were not towing anything at all. Whatever the problem might be I'm still glad just a person whoever works under the tuner still told me the correct info.

This is very true.

Many people think lugging is a bad thing, but its actually the best possible situation for engine wear and efficiency, which is low RPM high and high load.

Any of my tunes can be used for towing, the factory protection logic for things like trans torque reduction are still in there but at a reduced amount.

My tow specific tunes are designed to keep the trans from jumping around as much, and to keep the truck in 4th gear with the converter locked while at highway cruising speeds. This keeps trans temps down, reduces wear, and increase fuel economy.

Spike, if your truck is going back and forth you may have a specific issue.

Very odd, because the perf and mileage tunes have the same shift/lock schedules, unless you have a mileage-towing tune which would have a different shift schedule. If you send em an email with your name I can take a look.
